Wow! I did not think that would be reinforced concrete! Anyone know if this is just cheaper or actually stronger than steel columns?

The spans aren't all that large so concrete makes sense. It's less about what is stronger and more about efficiency. With the tight spacing of the angled columns on the transfer floor, it's mostly compression forces from double to single columns. Steel is optimal for really long spans, particularly in office buildings, but then you get really deep ceiling-floor plenums which isn't ideal in residential.

Do you suppose the developers are trying to lure M&M as a tenant?

Those are some awesome pics... the snow, carbide & carbon building, bold diagonal columns... great job HarryC. I’d want a couple of those to frame if I was in any way connected to this project.

I was out shooting the river on Tuesday night, and while on the DuSable Bridge, the right work lights at 300 N Michigan caught my eye. So I wandered over there for a few frames.

Tighter crop of the above shot:

I think this is a great project for the location. The A bracing is a nice architectural touch that makes this tower uniquely respectable.

Great shots all around!

They are great shots. I always assumed they were "M"s for either Michigan or Citizen M (or both).

Looks like 332 North Michigan is getting completely gutted. Anybody know what that will be ? A lot of work to stay a chicago sports novelty shop.
