The way it is now, 2717 Altura is three house in from the actual street. ...How did that happen?

Here's why I think it's the same house. (the porch roof appears to match)

Looks like they have a community driveway back to the house. They are pretty far in.

I lived up in Montrose for about 20 years and know the area well. The house is a survivor. It was built in 1920 and it doesn't look like it moved, even during the flood. The straight line behind it is just the property line and maybe an easement. On the other side of Rosemont(which becomes Roselawn south on Honolulu) is Evelyn, but it doesn't continue past Rosemont. I added in the street names, the location of the La Crescenta School and where the freeway is now. Our little house is circled.

Our little house is three lots above Raymond. It's in the same place it is now, and there may be a house in front of it(it's hard to tell).

ETA: CORRECTION, it should be Fairway, not Fairfield. (I now live in eternal shame.)

I think this is Claire and Clio - the Heller sisters.

Here in their early twenties living with mum and dad, Charles and Cecelia, at 741 W. 11th Street in 1930. They were living there when the pictures were taken.

How about a pall of noirishers?

Brew 102 brewery has been mentioned recently. When was it torn down, and when did the brand go away? I remember driving by the brewery on the 101 just east of City Hall as late as the 1970s, maybe early 1980s (?). Why was it called Brew 102--what is 102? Did they try 102 formulations before hitting on the right one?

didn't we have a similar situation about a year ago with regard to something that ran in the middle of the block where there were a lot of small houses clustered around? in the case of the Altura Avenue house, it was built in 1920. It was apparently part of what was called Parrago Tract, but I don't have time right now to research it. The little road that looks like it was once a street, is probably access which was put in later to allow fire trucks to get in the area.

I remember some color Hollywood area photos posted once concerning a flood that occurred in 1962 when mud washed down into the area from the hills. I don't recall these were posted anywhere though (didn't find them in a search, but I couldn't find those others I mentioned, either).

Hollywood Blvd. outside the Music Box Theatre, aka the Pix Theatre, aka the Henry Fonda Theatre. On the left, the Hollywood Gun Shop.

Sergeants 3 is playing at the Pix, starring, it appears, the entire Rat Pack: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

A Closer Look: Pantages blade sign on the right. On the left: Eddie's Food Cocktails, a "Hotel" blade sign (don't recall a Hotel there...)*** ...and a yellow and green sign that says "Blue Chip Stamps." Maybe it's blue, not green? Also a row of those Hollywood street lamps with orange stars on them.

***Thanks to HossC (post below) one can see atop the Hotel blade sign it says "Hastings" for Hastings Hotel. With the condensed nature of the photo, I thought the Hotel was almost next to the Pix, but now see it wasn't from the photo below. (Also, the Pix is the Fox in that photo.) Hastings Hotel aka Regent aka Vermillion. Also thanks to NoirNoir for more Hastings info and photo.

In 1962, it was the Hotel Hastings or the Hastings Hotel of Hollywood or some variation thereof. Here's an earlier incarnation which I posted back in 2013. I think we were trying to figure out which hotel window one of e_r's Ebay finds was taken from.

The 1956 CD lists the Hotel Vermillion/Vermillion Hotel at 6162 Hollywood Boulevard. Back in the 1942 CD, the Hotel Regent was at 6162 Hollywood Boulevard.
