That's pretty damn impressive. Hope the other planned East Midtown supertalls give us similar heights.

I know that 1 WTC will technically be taller, but, in real terms, this will be the tallest building in the western hemisphere.

Nice but isn't that if they go with "with-action"?

If it ends up 1118' that'd be kind of lame.

It also says "build year" 2030, would that be the year of completion? If we wait a decade for an 1100 footer that would be incredibly disappointing.

They're applying for a zoning change. They have to show what could legally be built, right now, under existing code. That doesn't mean they're considering this option.

OH! Great! Finally a super tower. It will shade to One Vanderbilt.

Is this the final aspect of the project or will there be any changes in the future?

I wonder if the $3B budget is for the no-action 1118' or the with-action 1646'. I am a bit skeptical that $3B would be enough to build the latter, so my hunch is that the $3B is only for the shorter version, and additional funding would be needed to build the 1646 footer.

Also, notice that Table 1-2 says "up to 1,646 feet", so it could end up being significantly shorter than that. Hopefully it will be at least 1,557 to beat Tower Fifth.

Agreed, 3B sounds like what an 1100 footer would cost in NYC.

I think people are getting prematurely excited about the height too. I'll be more hopeful when things are finalized. I also hope 2030 is the year of completion and not ground breaking.

Indeed

Any chance 1646 is excluding parapet etc. and we could see a near 1700 footer?

Yes, "build year" does seem to refer to construction, not completion.

On the bright side, this proposal could inspire others to aim higher, e.g. it might push Macklowe to make Tower Fifth 1647' to ensure he would still have the highest roof in town. If a bunch of developers start proposing 1600 - 1800 footers, at least one or two of them would likely become reality.

Everything could always be shorter, but by the time we reach this phase, usually is what it is. That figure might nit even include high mechanical space on the roof.

I didn't realize we'd have to wait over a decade to see this, it better be 1700' including parapet . Hopefully it can happen sooner somehow.

Was thinking the same, this would be a great place for something the caliber of China Zun or Chow Tai Fook

I just hope it's not all blue glassed facade. Height is impressive but it does kinda look like one of those dildo buildings.

Whatever the design may be, its going to make 1 Vandy look impotent in comparison. It won't be the height per say but the thickness of this tower which will make all the difference via the skyline, even from a far.

Time will tell, but a lot of potential with this site.

And just one site of many that offers great super tall potential.
