When I think of San Diego, I include the population of all its suburbs, including Tijuana, and we arrive at? 5 million?
Tijuana really blew it when they banned gambling back in the 1930's, as they could have become a far more desirable Las Vegas, with a more favorable year-round climate.
I could envisage either casino resorts in the Rio Zona district or I could envisage Rosarito Beach being a much, much larger Atlantic City.
Doesn't the CA Coastal Commission limit high rises along the coast in San Diego, like Mission Beach or La Jolla or north of the Coronado Hotel? That may have added to the growth.
