As the first supertall in Brooklyn, I like to think of it as the "Empire State" of Brooklyn. It will be symbolic of the BK skyline. But designwise, it could be anywhere from 45 Broad, to Steinway. Maybe one day we'll start to see these quality designs in the taller buildings of Queens.

I hope 45 Broad rises across the river. Latest updates via the 45 Broad team were:

Quote:
WEEKS OF 11/22 + 11/29 + 12/6
We will be coordinating foundation work with contractor, subcontractor and design professionals. There will be no active construction work during this period.

Definitely on-hold. Even CTBUH lists it on hold. Would be nice to get that rising, as architecturally, its on the level of 9 Dekalb. Some may argue its even better.

No activity at that site though as of January.

They haven't even bothered to do the usual coordinating foundation update for January 2020.

That thread is locked but I did find this, dated a week or so ago.

These two buildings would work so well together across the river if either of them ever happen

And one of such great taste! A beautiful tower in the making attached to a beautiful old bank.

Additionally, if I can remember, this won't be as egregiously uberwealthy as some of the other foreign billionaire money pit supertalls on 57th street (as beautiful as some are, I would rather a building of such size hold more than a few dozen people)- New Yorkers might actually live there!

Yes, obviously a supertall in downtown Brooklyn won't be quite as expensive as a supertall on Billionaires Row. Prime Brooklyn is very expensive, and not much cheaper than equivalent parts of Manhattan. Though in both locations the residents will be very wealthy and local, mostly. NY doesn't have a lot of the Miami-style absentee ownership.

But nothing is preventing a non-New Yorker from purchasing a unit. And the share of local isn't a product of price but location (ie an UWS superluxury tower will be almost entirely local, because it's a family neighborhood, while a Midtown superluxury tower will have many from around the globe, because it's more convenient for those with business interests in Midtown).

It has a decent affordable housing component as well. If one is lucky enough to land such a unit, they can live in a "57th street type" tower for cheap. 30% of them affordable.

So happy to see this moving. With 53w53 complete, 45 Broad napping, and Steinway wrapping up its crown, this is currently the best of the crop rising.

Still wish it could have tapered down and out into the Junior's site but this tower is going to be shockingly stunning.
