Well that really sucks that they didn't keep the old smokestack, this town is such a epic failure with keeping aesthetics. I know you guys are so vanilla that you'll all are probably like why would you want to keep that ugly thing

some drugs might really help with that putting sentences together in a coherent fashion thing. It's quite possible that you had something interesting to say but I could not make heads or tails from what you wrote.

He thinks that we're too plain to see the aesthetic in keeping the smokestack with the new development. The rendering actually looked quite colorful, I don't see how keeping an old, gray, ultimately useless stack helps here. If this was a brick or concrete design it might have worked.

Whether one likes the aesthetic or not, I can't see how there would be much point in keeping this disembodied stack in place as it appears that it would be hidden by the building regardless.

Just looked at google maps and seeing what was there before, this will be a huge improvement for the neighborhood IMHO.

5 years later ...

There's been an excavator on site for the last while. They implemented the construction easements last week so it is safe to say work is beginning at this site. Camille Residences across the street still has its easements in place and The Bloom is finishing up a block away.

Crane base has been installed. I'll grab a photo the next time I see sunlight.

This one has stalled due to a Halifax Planning Amendment which arose from the construction start date.

Well that's an unfortunate mess. Seems like one of those cases where the legalities make this way more complicated than it "needs" to be.

Normally extension of commencement would be a simple non-substantive amendment to the development agreement. But the development agreement has lapsed because they missed the commencement day (apparently due to contaminated soils), and they can't "un-lapse" it because the policy that allowed the development agreement got deleted when Centre Plan came into effect.

Weird thing is that they did an amendment to the agreement in 2017 but didn't ask for a time extension.

I would have thought that the amendment would automatically reset the commencement date. But maybe that is expecting too much? lol

Sounds like bureaucratic bungling by HRM planning. But of course only the developer is negatively impacted.

I'm guessing the DA extension was finally approved. The crane was going up today.

*Moderator note: This was posted in the wrong thread. I've moved it here to avoid confusion.

^ The amendments haven't been approved. The virtual public hearing for them is on July 21 (Case 22682 Details).

They must be anticipating approval then since the crane went up already.

They must of gotten approval because there's actual construction underway now;

Let's celebrate another addition to the Isleville family. If they retain the colours it will contrast nicely with the other two buildings.

This is slowly climbing up. It should be noted the civic address for this project is now 5550 Bilby so my past posts have a small error. On the ground floor they are starting to frame for the individual townhouse entrances along Isleville.

Rosno Management is the developer of this project. Their property portfolio shows they own small, older apartment buildings in lower income areas like Spryfield and Lower Fairview.
