Here is South City. Looks like the project is going on at a decent pace.

The Mall really has a big frontage on the main road. I couldn't capture it that well from the car.

Shahid Minar and the bus terminus below... efforts to remove the bus terminus or move it underground have not materialized. Yet such a move would make the place a lot nicer and greener.

South City has four 35 storey towers under construction (I think they have all topped out). A close to 1 million sq ft mall is also under construction. Plus there is the school and club house stuff. There is also a proposal for a 15 storey luxury tower. A flyover from the complex to Prince Anwar Shah Road connector (to EM bypass) has been proposed by the developer.

And so the growth continues. The new town will have 1 million in a 35 sq km area? Wow, that's some density.

This is what the government proposed initially:

Rajarhat New Town : Total area: 38.55 sq / km, Flats [apartments] to be constructed: 3 lakh (approx) [3 lakh = 300,000], Water treatment plants to be built: 1, Road network to be built: 700 km

Estimated population 750,000 residents and 250,000 floating population.

So the projected density is pretty high. Not a very happy situation.

The biggest project currently under development is Sukhobrishti complex which will have 20,000 apartments and a projected population of 100,000. The project will be over 150 acres.
