Dude seriously. "Midtown Village" has been the worst rebranding of a neighborhood I've seen.

It’s almost as if our great legacy of a unique moniker for our city’s core is being eroded, purposefully, in favor of a moniker that is overused and tired.

I blame most of it on the media conglomerate inquirer/philly.com/foobooz, etc.
They still to this day use the term ‘Midtown Village’ instead of the Gayborhood because I guess that decision was made one day and they are sticking to it like some soviet comrades that were told so. And they can’t reverse now because of sheer embarrassment that they are wrong.

To be fair, it's not like Philly's is the only gayborhood in the country.

No, but that's still what it's called. I'd even MUCH rather prefer Washington Square West because it's at least geographically descriptive. Maybe even South East Center City (although this is a bit outside it? Maybe even part of East Market?) if they took a cue from the SWCC alternative to Graduate Hospital. Midtown does NOT exist here.

Old Family Court 5-star Hotel will be announced just after the Four Season’s opening press run.

Speculation: J.W.Marriott as the brand.
Not sure about that. It's to be run by Journal Hotels, the manager at Standard in NYC, Hollywood Roosevelt https://www.inquirer.com/real-estate...CLZDc6AmQqPDIM If it was to be a Marriott brand, I'd think a Marriott company would be the manager. Their hotels are presumably managed by Managed by Marriott, MxM for short. MxM. https://news.marriott.com/2016/01/ma...ed-properties/ But the Standard and Roosevelt are great hotels and this would not be a downgrade over a J.W. if this new hotel is anything like them. When is the Four Season's opening press run supposed to be? August?

I think the districts in and around Center City should be updated. More specific.

Sorry to bump with no new info, but did this thing ever go through CDR? Does it even have to? All articles said this thing would be opening next year...

It didn't trigger CDR-- It's under 100,000gsf, less than 100 units, and more than 200 ft from a residential-zoned property. If it was within 200 feet of a residential-zoned property, the cutoff is 50,000gsf and 50 units.

If it triggered CDR, that process would have to be complete before they went to the ZBA for their variance, which they already did in July.

That's been there for about a year, sadly.

I hope you got a chance to get to know that guy walking in-front of that building in your picture.

Was anything formally announced for this?

It's not a Marriott. The name/brand hasn't been announced yet. But MxM (Managed by Marriott) manages all Marriott hotels. This one is not going to be managed by them. It's going to be managed by the same company, Journal Hotels, that runs the Roosevelt Hotel in LA, Standard Hotel in New York, some others. Good hotels.

If you are instead talking about the manager of the hotel that's going to go up on this plot, rather than the old family court, I don't know. Haven't seen anything.

I know I'm late to the party, and not to get into the tiring Midtown debate, but isn't this the exact building that housed Midtown II for like 30 years?

Good news, I walked by this site and they had demo permits posted. The window for them to demolish opened two days ago, and it looks like they've already started some preliminary demo prep.

Either that or the buildings have truly deteriorated that far. Either way, glad to see this beauty move forward.

There had been demo permits for ages. NEW ones now and evident demo prep?

walking by the other day there was work occurring on the inside of the soon to be demoed building. I suppose they were removing salvagable items from the interior. First time Ive seen any actual manpower on site.

Back from the dead! I am really excited for this project. I like the massing, the appearance, and how it interacts at street level. What a long time line to get permit approvals . . . I hope it doesn't take that long every step of the way! Crazy amount of proposals and activity in the areas around Jefferson east of Broad.
