The Ekana canal is complete in the Otahita area. Tampa and Orlando also began work on their length around the same time. Eventually, most likely in three years, they will all meet to form the Ekana Canal across the whole state, bringing the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean together, with Otahita's span intersecting with the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (the system of canals that runs all the way down the US east coast) with the Ekana Canal. This will make Otahita a very busy place having two intersecting major waterways.
(to be honest, i'm not sure if there is already a real east-west canal in Florida or not. I tried to look up canals in Florida, but couldn't find anything. hopefully there is not so it's original for Otahita.)
here is a view of the canal as far as the eye can see. there is also an opening in the beach land strip, but this position shows starting from within the Ponce River.
