New York city demographic anomaly

I just checked the latest census figures and while almost every other county or large city had a lowering in the percentage of non-hispanic whites, New York City did not. New York City still stands at 35% non hispanic white for the last 3 years running. Any ideas why?

a) the vast numbers of non-hispanic whites who move to NYC for whatever reason from other areas of the country.

b) it still has a faily large number of non-hispanic white immigration from places like eastern europe

sounds right. And mind you, New York is still receiving lot's of non white immigration as well. Balanced migration is great imo.

Cost. Whites are still the most wealthy in the U.S.A. and Canada, and they are often the only ones who can afford the high prices in places like NYC.

Expect the city to get more white as costs continue to go up.
Its the suburbs where all the immigrants move to now. Not the city.

Its funny. Everyone in Toronto goes on about the great diversity here. But I just read that the census showed that inner city Toronto is 70% white, while its the suburbs with the most diverse populations. Now I understand white people also come from different backrounds. But you get the idea.

So what NYC or atleast Manhattan get more whiter.

In a way it is sad, because cities should be home to all the people that make up the region.

Yea, I just just checked the Metro figures for New York as well. It also is holding steady at 55% white, no change from last year. Los Angeles Metro is also holding steady at 36% white while the Chicago Metro has dropped from 57% white to 56% white and Seattle has dropped in only one year from 75% white to 74% white.

again I am surprised more cities aren't declining, I have a feeling
the smaller metros are the ones that will show white declines the most.

35% is still a low number. Hopefully it doesn't get any lower. It's extremely disproportional to the rest of the U.S. It means that middle-class whites are/have moved out.
