That is the Arianne-phosphate plant, a 330 million dollars project. If that and the Maritime Iron plant take off next year, it would offset most jobs lost at the smelter and create more!

Go 2020!

Looks like another piece of land from the 2015 fire in Downtown Bathurst has sold. The corner lot where the old Bank of Montreal Building was bought by the city a few months back. Now the land that the old Christies building was on has sold just before Christmas.

I know the city bought the corner lot to try to be able to entice developpment of that corner. Not sure if they are the ones who bought the Christies property for the same purposes or something else is afoot.

Maritime Iron's EIA is now online, Construction schedule, if everything goes well, shows that site prep would start in March and a 3 year construction period with production starting in Early 2023.

This one is becoming closer and closer to reality!

Everyone was behind this project before the closure of the smelter, now everyone wants this to happen so I expect low opposition to this project.

Innovative New Brunswick-made fishing boat talk of trade show
Company establishing production plant in Dalhousie

As the crowd milled about the Moncton Coliseum floor, one attraction at the Fish Canada Workboat Canada trade show kept reeling in onlookers.

A new fishing boat with lofty goals of transforming the industry, and bringing much-needed jobs to northern New Brunswick, drew plenty of eyes Friday during the first day of Canada's largest commercial marine trade show,

The Pro Cat stood out because it's a catamaran, a double-hull, composite vessel that looks nothing like traditional fishing boats in the region, or on the showroom floor.

The 32-by-16-foot vessel is said to be a more stable and speedier option — with a top speed of 38 knots — ready to hit the market.

This looks like a fantastic product - speedy, stable and hopefully durable. I predict great success. Good for Dalhousie!!

That is a nice project. We now have two boatbuilders in Northern NB who use innovative hull designs. Construction Navale Atlantique in Bas-Caraquet and now Pro Cat in Dalhousie!

Fundypros is looking for steel studded drywalers as they have secured a significant amount of Commercial construction projects in and around the Bathurst Region.

Add on Kijiji, I know some properties have sold and where subdivided in the last few months, still nothing concrete on those properties.

Anyone heard anything?

Well since its pretty quiet, not much happening around, Trivalli has put the Caribou mines on standby, halting production, waiting for the price of minerals to go back up.

Lots of real estate movements on snb, 3 of the 4 properties from the 2015 downtown fire in Bathurst have sold, not sure if its just consolidation or something is afoot, i know the city has bought one of the pieces.

Other than that we might see Doordash Dashing through the area, direct posting for Bathurst are on indeed.

Hopefully Caribou is short term, but doesn't look good.
Glencore applied for environmental assessment to dismantled the smelter. Sad.

Hopefully we can get some more industry in the north in the coming years.

The only positive outcome of the dismantling of the smelter would be that it will free up a lot of prime land to the port so new industries could set up shop or expand the terminals. The port has been growing rapidly in the last few years, regularly running out of room. The smelter was now less than 10% of the traffic and they will make this up rather quickly.

They could plan for a container terminal where the smelter used to be. There is no restriction on how big they can go and could accommodate several ships at a time.

All though it does not feel like it with the recent closures, the region could start going on an industrial momentum in the next few years.

Maritime Iron is having webinars to inform local companies of their future needs. I think this will go forward.

Also looks like Place Bathurst Mall will have a new tenant, from the colour of the storefront, I will say a Telus or Eastlink store.

This was the desired plan, they also had plans to build a co-gen on site to produce power to sell to nb power if this was to fail. This probably means that the power plant will shut down by 2030 or that they have something else in mind for it.

Things are pretty quiet. Not looking good for Maritime Iron. Hopefully they will resolve the issues and get it back on track.
Is there something going in where the old bulk plant was in Bathurst near the VIA Rail station?

I read a press release on their website that they would consider buying the power plant to do the project. Also heard they could build a cogen and sell the power to nb power.

http://maritimeiron.com/news/2020/6/...r-blaine-higgs

Hopefully this will go ahead!

About the old bulk plant I have not heard anything, is there activity there?

Other than the Bakery that is setting up shop at the waterfront, it is pretty quiet.

Heard there is surveying going on there. Maybe its nothing though.

I see Belledune may get a wallboard plant. Also the road in the industrial park is being extended to access land that was previously sold there. Not sure who bought it or what they plan on doing there.

Also I read on a Trevali investor call transcript Caribou Mine is down at least to Q1 of 2021. They need to bring cost per ton down to make it viable when/if it reopens, which they feel they can do.
