Uh okay? I always felt that Metropolis was based off of New York City while Gotham City was based off of Chicago, currently in the movies.

I'm not denying that Gotham was primarily based off of New York City in the comics, I know that, it's even named after a New York City nickname.

And your Des Moines comparison is just dumb, come on now.

"However, longtime Batman artist Neal Adams considers Gotham to be based on Chicago (whose nickname is "New Gotham"), pointing to its history of corruption and organized crime, and adding, "One of the things about Chicago is Chicago has alleys (which are virtually nonexistent in New York). Back alleys, that's where Batman fights all the bad guys."

"Film adaptations have varied: Tim Burton's Gotham was based primarily on New York, while the films directed by Christopher Nolan have shown a Gotham more closely based on Chicago.[15] In Nolan's films "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", the license plates of the cars registered in Gotham strongly resemble those of Illinois but display "Gotham" as the state. [16] Nolan has made it a well known fact that his Gotham is Chicago, he shot all of The Dark Knight and most of Batman Begins in Chicago."

if you say so. just because the latest two movies were filmed in chicago doesn't mean anything. i guess i agree with you if i completely ignore the comics and previous 29847239 batman movies.

I've always considered Gotham City to be a Tokyo-sized Chicago (with a dash of Hong Kong and a hint of Tokyo) located in the general region of New York City. Gahh, I loved Batman Begins unique interpretation of the city, where they went all out and created a full CGI city in one shot, as well as including the massive elevated rail network in many shots of the skyline (which had many CGI buildings carrying strong architectural resemblance with Chicago, but different enough to be unique)

In The Dark Knight, it seems like they just said "meh, who cares", and completely half-assed all of what they built in the first one. Instead of making Gotham a unique looking city, they just said "WTH, no one will notice obvious Chicago buildings, so why bother??????? LOL!!!" haha, anyone agree?

Yay!!!

Boo!!!

Sorry about that, I don't think that little rumination was worth an entire thread and since it was sort of being talked about...

I made this one many years ago as a joke. Seems appropriate now.

Skyline Mash Up

Here is Lower Manhattan with Jersey City replaced with part of downtown Toronto. They are from the same angle and to the same scale.

Now the same view with Jersey City replaced with Chicago. The scale is similar but getting the angles and view the same was tough.

Just found this thread and have enjoyed looking through some of the pictures.
I've often wondered what buildings from one city would look like in another city. For example LA's Library Tower in Toronto or the CN Tower in New York.

I'm not the best with photoshop so was wondering if there's a commercial software product where the user can select buildings from a database to create and build your own skyline or add to existing ones. Then a la Google Earth one could rotate the view and see the skyline from various angles.
Does anybody know if such software exists?

For something like that i use google sketchup. Where you can browse through the 3d warehouse and pick whatever building, random thing you like to add to your render.

And now for something completely different

(Yeah i know it is not in photoshop but it is an edited skyline eh?)

Thumbs down Photo-shopped Ad

The Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship company has been photo-shopping its ad for its new ship named Breakaway. I am not computer-savvy to post any photos, but in their ad, they show the skyline of Manhattan skyscrapers on its top deck. Gullible people such as myself actually believed they recreated the skyline on the ship. False advertising!
