I can assure you that building design does not take 5-10 years. Even a large building like this typically happens in 1-2 years, depending on how fast the developer moves.

I have been apart of all sorts of designs GHIB started 10 years ago internal design without the "public" knowing is so much more than just a 1-2 year design. The design probably started 2-3 years before ground break and design is still on going.

Love this photo of the Hudson Block site. Does anyone know what is the name of the tall older building in the background with the red scaffolding going up the spine of the building? I think I read about this somewhere that it was abandoned for a long period of time and is not being renovated?

I was up in Detroit for the first time in a year or so this past weekend and was really impressed with how things continue to get more and more vibrant. Campus Martius was packed (and everyone was wearing masks!), and there were lots of folks shopping on Woodward. Getting this skyscraper up is really going to go a long way in making the lower and upper halves of downtown feel more cohesive.

Now if someone can just get to work on the Cadillac Tower lots...

Does this mean we're getting the taller version?

It means that they're likely deep into talks with a major hotel operator and will be ready to officially announce something in 2021. I highly doubt we'll see any height increase, but who really knows.

The rumor floating around is that it's going to be a Hilton, maybe a Conrad hotel.

Looks like they finally did the concrete mat pour for the tower foundation yesterday. With that done I would expect form work for the tower core to be built and put in place here pretty soon.

^ well that's certainly some good news to hear for the tower part of this project.

Mat pours are expensive; you generally don't pay for one unless you have every intention of building the building.

If we see the form work for the tower core show-up soon, then that'll be yet another blow to the doubters.

Ever since they started working six days a week, and later had a surge in the size of the construction crew, I have been convinced that they are serious about getting this done. IMO the only potential disappointment that could still happen is yet another height cut, but a tower (in addition to the block) will definitely be built.

Cool. That's a big pour.

Where are all the concrete trucks for this? Following the blue concrete pump hoses, it looks like they lead to the right and up and out of the pit... so I assume the trucks are out of the camera's frame of view.

Someone's going to have to pull that construction camera lens back further eventually, so we have a broader view of the tower. Or get a different angle on it.

They line up at the corner of Gratiot and Farmer and pour into a chute thing that leads into the blue tubes.

Hilton would be logical, since there are no flagship Hiltons in Metro Detroit.
