Was on Emporis, they say that theres 6 supertalls UC right now. Does not include , Hudson Yards North, Vornado, 3 Hudson Boulevard, Hudson Yards South Office Tower, girasole, verre, Nordstrom tower, and 80 south street. All of which will be built. Potential of 8 supertalls UC at the same time in the next year or so. What a sight that will be. I'm sure I probably missed some more too.

Emporis is sometimes very outdated, so I wouldn't trust them. Trust the SSP sources ... and me. Also the German article in my signature is one of the most accurate in the web, for New York buildings only of course.

Let's see what we've got as of now ...

Completed:
1. Empire State Building, 1250ft (381m) [1,454ft (443m) when counting the spire]
2. Bank of America Tower, 1200ft (366m)
3. Conde Nast Building, 1118ft (341m) [when counting the spire]
4. Chrysler Building, 1046ft (319m)
5. New York Times Tower, 1046ft (319m)

Under construction:
1. One World Trade Center, 1787ft (545m) [topped out]
2. 432 Park Avenue, 1398ft (426m)
3. Three World Trade Center, 1155ft (352m)
4. One57, 1005ft (306m) [topped out]
5. 4WTC, 977ft (298m) [topped out]

On hold:
1. Two World Trade Center, 1349ft (411m)

In preparation:
1. 225W57th, 1550ft+ (472m+), [likely to exceed 1650ft (500m)]
2. Hudson Yards North Tower, 1337ft (408m)
3. Tower Verre, 1050ft (320m)

Approved:
1. One Manhattan West, 1216ft (371m)
2. 107W57th, 1200ft (366m)
3. The Girasole, 1060ft (323m)
4. 80 South Street, 1018ft (310m)

Proposed:
1. 15 Penn PLaza, 1216ft (371m)
2. 34th & 10th, 1000ft+ (305m+)
3. 34th & 8th, 1000ft+ (305m+)
4. 138 East 50th Sreet, 1000ft+ (305m+)
5. 1 Vanderbilt, 1000ft+ (305m+)

NY Times reports 107 W.57 as 1,000 ft., per the developer (Michael Stern of JDS Development).

Good thing I already had it listed as 1000ft+.

Another supertall for New York! Bring it on!

Is 80 south street a real proposal or just a vision? Someone did write that shop was planning a tall thin tower somewhere in lower manhattan but this isn't it, I think?

SHOP has announced a different Lower Manhattan tower. No details yet on location and specifics.

80 South Street is a separate proposal, and not related to SHOP. It's very much real.

Does anyone know the status of 15 Penn PLaza. Is it still approved or was it canceled?

15 Penn Plaza has been canceled. Long term, Vornado still plans to redevelop the hotel, but when it happens it will be a different design.

Wasn't the 15 Penn design something that was specifically approved for that site and any new design would have to go through the approval process all over again? Anyway, I consider it to be more of a stale/dormant proposal rather than cancelled (like the WPC or either of the NYSE towers).

Just FYI, there are about 50 200m+ buildings currently under construction / on hold / in preparation / approved / proposed.
58 buildings over 200m are completed and topped out, respectively.

Thus New York could have more than 100 skyscrapers completed by 2025.

Kind of. Vornado still plans a tower on the site, but plans to keep the existing hotel in the interim. They are no longer marketing 15 Penn Plaza to office users, though.

I guess the most accurate term would be "dormant" or something. They said they weren't going forward with the tower until Penn Station started redevelopment.

Amazing!

I think that the number may be closer to 120/130 in 2025 if activity continues at the current rate, even though it's clearly accelerating as the economy improves (or just sucks less depending who you ask) and banks are more able and willing to give bigger loans. I expect that the outer boroughs will be getting more proposals for 200m towers than Manhattan 10 years from now and will almost certainly get a 1000 footer proposed before 2020. Hell, even Staten Island will probably get a 200m tower proposed before 2020.

I'm starting to think that a serious proposal for a megatall (almost certainly on 57th street, Midtown East or somewhere in the Hudson Yards) will be a reality by 2020 with a completion date before 2030.

The biggest suspense will be what the population will be like in 2020. Both permanent and temporary. Its not even 2014 and we have so many residential projects going up. Not to mention all the new offices going up which will raise the daytime population as well.
