Midtown is too dense that I don't think it will be a big difference.
There will most definitely be change, even from the 920 ft 220 CPS. Even the tallest, thinnest towers will have as much impact and more as the ESB's spire.

.....Vornado finally acquired a residential site at 220 Central Park South, where the REIT plans to build a 920-foot-high, 41-story condominium tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern. Last month, Vornado settled litigation with Gary Barnett’s Extell Development over the site, and Roth said today that the planned 472,000-square-foot tower would have 140 feet of unobstructed Central Park views.

“It took almost eight years to complete the assemblage, but it was certainly worth the time,” Roth said.

^^^ Only 41 stories spread out over 920 feet? Haha sounds like units in this bad boy are going to have 20 foot ceilings

920 ft consisting of just 41 stories could mean an intricate crown or spire of some kind

Almost positive it is 62 stories - or something in the mid-60s.

It's 60-something floors. The original version, which was totally different, had the lower floor count.

They bought sizable air rights in the last five years, so that's why they can built larger and taller.

I've got a couple comments on that article.

-I can't figure out what "140 feet of unobstructed Central Park views" means. Is it how wide the tower is? I thought this was supposed to be another skinny tower. Or is it the height of the tower over the other buildings on CPS? Surely the tower will be more than 140 feet taller.

-Vornado also purchased 655 5th ave. It is a nine story building in just outside the area covered by the East Side rezoning. they spent a significant amount too-almost $300 MILLION for that little block. Combined with the neighboring lowrises (one of which is owned by the tenant of 655), it should be quite a nice development site. Do a little lobbying to get it included in the rezoning, and it becomes even more attractive.

Got pretty good views from 1000 feet too...

Southwest tip of Central Park has NYC’s priciest condos: report

The city’s priciest condominiums are bunched around the southwest tip of Central Park on the Upper West Side, not in the stuffy enclaves of the Upper East Side, a new report from CityRealty finds. The Zeckendorf brothers’ 15 Central Park West is the city’s most expensive, with prices at the Robert A.M. Stern-designed building at West 61st Street hitting an average of $5,847 per square foot, according to the report.

Next on the list was the Time Warner Center at 25 Columbus Circle, where the average price was $4,644 per square foot, according to the report seen by DNAinfo. The tower next door to the Time Warner Center – the Residences at the Mandarin Oriental – also made the list at No. 5, with average prices at $3,738 per square foot.

“That corner of the park is just phenomenal the way money gathers there,” CityRealty’s Pete Culliney told DNAinfo.

The report also found that prices in Gramercy Park had seen the greatest average price jumps in the last five years – indeed, condos in the area saw an average increase in price of 259 percent, from $1.1 million to $3.9 million.

The city’s condo buildings with this year’s priciest homes weren’t on Park or Fifth avenues. They’re clustered around the southwest tip of Central Park on the Upper West Side. The most expensive building was the limestone-clad 15 Central Park West, designed by renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern...

The opulent condo building at 15 Central Park West — modeled on the Rosario Candela’s architecture at legendary co-op 740 Park Ave. — has seen its share of bold-faced residents, including Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, musician Sting and actor Denzel Washington, according to a Vanity Fair video about 15 Central Park West. It cost $1 billion to build and has racked up $2 billion in sales, including a record-breaking $88 million penthouse sold to a Russian billionaire.

“They tried to redo that ‘classic seven’ and bigger of the Old World kind of layouts,” Culliney said. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Stern’s elegant buildings have been pushing prices higher in other neighborhoods, too.

It's being designed by Robert Stern.

Looks like there are two buildings under construction directly across the street from each other.

That's correct...the other building is the much hyped Nordstrom Tower. It will be quite a site to see these two buildings rising at roughly the same time (along with the Steinway Tower)

A solid 900 footer and a 1,400+ footer rising side by side. In close vicinity there's already a nearly completed 1,000 footer. And in short walking distance we got a beautiful 1,350 footer in the works. Further on there's a giant 1,400 footer rising in the neighborhood. And close by a very sexy 1,000 footer will grace our skyline.

Only in New York.
