Smile NEW YORK | NYSE Tower | 900 FT | FLOORS

This proposal for a New York Stock Exchange headquarters on Wall Street, designed by David Childs of SOM, was well on it's way to being built, with contributions from both the city and state.

In the immediate aftermath of 9/11 however, the project was not delayed, but canceled.

I'm glad that this was not built. Not surprisingly, as the architect was SOM/Childs, the design sucked Dick Cheney. Moreover, it would have been a huge shame to lose 37 Wall, which is gorgeous.

However, 45 Wall, which is a market-rate rental, is hideous. I hope that it's redeveloped.

Would rather have seen this rise from the base of the Stock Exchange itself.
