I don't believe I will be a guest at Sutton Place.

One of the main reasons for this development was the skywalk from the convention centre to BellMTS Place. The entire complex was designed to make that connection as short as possible. They seem to be trying to create a cluster there where the convention centre and arena can attract more events with more hotel rooms within a couple minutes’ indoor walk of each.

You guys are killing me...it's no stretch to step out of cityplace into another skywalk to hit the food hall or the Liquor Mart. It's no different than going to the Delta or even the convention centre from cityplace. And based on how popular the food hall is turning out to be, most people aren't taking issue. As for security, there was a security guard today where the hall splits to go either to the food hall or the LM and another at the LM itself. There's also often a security guard on the main level entrance to go up to the food hall. the only issue is that there is a lack of skywalk signage at the start of the new skywalk in cityplace. My guess it that's city's responsibility to hang a Downtown W walkway sign at that spot.

As for the LofW taproom on the main level of TNS1, I'm sure that once Sutton Place is up and running (and eventually Wawanesa), hotel guests and tenants will have no issue with crossing the street to get to the taproom. Most people like to explore the area that they are staying in (if they feel it's safe of course)...not stay holed up in their hotel room. They gotta eat and gotta drink somewhere! And if they want to bring drinks back to their room, the LM is right there too.

That's a really nice perspective to show some density in Winnipeg. Will look even better once 360 Main finally hits its growth spurt!

I'd say it's related considering the city gave TN extra tax money to build the plaza. Should be a public space.

Oh yes, because I'm sure they were all smoking meth, blasting Slayer & stabbing people over toonies...

Chipman must *really* not like people to play hockey, unless they're doing it in his precious little MTS Centre across the street, paying thousands an hour for bookings... to call WPS on a bunch of families playing hockey in his square, is absurd.

The group doing it was making a point about the need for public spaces... what's funny/sad is that they 100% knew that security would crack down on their road hockey game, thereby helping them make their point.

The myth that 20 million dollars of funding was needed to creat a “public square” has been shattered. If a small grass roots organization can not play ball hockey for an hour to make a point, I cannot wait to see what will happen when a circle dance appears next Wednesday .

The True North Security will undoubtably be receiving some community sensitivity training in the near future.

They played for around a half hour, until True North officials cut the game short, citing concerns about damage to the plaza floor.

Can people normally take over a public square to play ball hockey whenever they want? There would be liability and insurance issues, just for starters.

Meanwhile, while they're calling WPS on little Timmy & their family playing hockey, theres probably someone wandering around the complex high off meth, trying to find a way to get themselves freebies, or trying to scare people out of the building, at the same time these guards are cleaning out a public square of families with children... which was a funding condition for the City of Winnipeg, to begin with.

These guards are idiots lol. Whose the security company for TNS? If its the same one that lets people enter the U of W, panhandling in the halls & stabbing students over laptops (Securitas?), then that might actually explain TNS security. 110%.

Clear house and hire somebody new...?

All TN had to do was take out a carafe of coffee and hot chocolate along with Tim Bits. The story and exposure would have been very different. Very poorly played in my opinion. If I was TN I might invite the crowd back and try this again ...

Please...

That’s almost like saying no skating in old market square...

Public spaces on private property all have liability clauses...

You must have been a city inspector in an earlier life!

No one is “taking over the square”!

Have you heard of a park or community centre?

Problem here is the city likely gave them the money, but didn’t ensure any sort of public use clauses were in it.

At the end of the day, TN has insurance though. You let people on your property to get to the businesses... they could still fall.
