Time for another part - this time
Kastellet the old fortification from 1626
Back in the day moat based defenses surrounded the entire city, but as time went and the city grew it has now ended up in the center of town more or less..
Personally I hold the place very dear as I used to work there while in the military, as the place is not only historic but a very active part of the Danish military and home to the Military Intelligence, the Chief of Defence and various brances of the Home Defence among other things
To most however it works as one of the city's best parks doing the daytime, so let's take a look..
The place has two entrances - here's one - this was how all gates to the city used to look like a few centuries ago..
Mainstreet
The church that is still very active to this day
The home of the Chief of Defense
Let's take a walk up on the bastions..
The star shaped moat and sloping sides
In case of war the outlaying windmills might have been lost to the invaders so the fortification has it own
The southern entrance
The place used to packed with cannons defending the habour and city
Now there's only a couple cannons left for atmosphere
And to keep the tourists behave
This bastion covers the entrance to the habour
In the habour you will find two other forts defendeing the habour inlet ( Sweden in the horrizon )
Northern Entrance
Yes the place is active and it is protected quite well despite the lax atmosphere
Change of guards
Time to leave..
Memorial to the fallen Danes
Swans patrolling the moat..
That's it for this part... stay tuned
