Salt Lake City & MSA/CSA Rundown

Groundbreaking January 10th - Construction To Begin This Month On Salt Lake City's New Hyatt Regency Convention Center Hotel

Salt Lake City, UT – Today, Atlanta-based real estate developer Portman Holdings and Salt Lake County announce the selection of Hyatt Hotels Corporation as operator of the new Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City on the corner of 200 South and West Temple.
“We are delighted to have closed financing and to commence construction of the state-of-art, 700-key Hyatt Regency convention hotel in Salt Lake City. This is the culmination of a multi-year effort, a strong partnership with the County, and an innovative financing and execution strategy. We are also pleased to continue our 52-year partnership with Hyatt Hotels that began with the iconic Hyatt Regency Atlanta,” said Ambrish Baisiwala, CEO of Portman Holdings.
The project is estimated to cost $377 million and has been partially financed through the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy program, which allows for specialty financing to enable green energy design and implementation. The
hotel represents one of the first ground-up developments to utilize this program in Utah.
“We are so excited for this project to come to fruition as it has been many years in the making. This convention center hotel will change the urban landscape of Salt Lake City and help strengthen the local economy,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “We want to thank our incredible partners at the state, the city, and across the private sector. Without their cooperation and dedication, this project would never have become a reality.”
The 686,784 square foot, 26-story hotel will have 700 guest rooms and 60,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel will have two separate restaurants on the first and sixth floors and a lobby bar. The sixth-floor restaurant will sit adjacent to an outdoor amenity area, inclusive of a pool and a 7,500 square feet outdoor terrace for events and other activities. The project will be directly connected to the Salt Palace Convention Center for seamless access to convention attendees staying at the hotel or using its offerings.
“This is one of the most exciting developments we’ve seen in the last 20 years,” said Mark White, Senior VP of Sales & Services for Visit Salt Lake. “It takes full advantage of our stunning mountain backdrop and the downtown’s urban setting. Our sales team now has everything meeting professionals want, and we’re ready to compete for more and larger tradeshows and conventions.”

Construction begins in early January 2020 with a groundbreaking event scheduled for Friday, January 10, 2020 at 12PM MST.

separate entrances and will be independently operated.

95 State at City Creek will offer office tenants premier amenities such as dedicated executive parking, exercise facilities with daily instructional classes, a private entrance for cyclists with secure bike storage, automated window shading,

Construction is set to begin this month with completion expected in Fall 2021.

Building features start with oversized light-filled floorplates, tall ceiling heights, comprehensive onsite amenities, and outdoor tenant spaces. But they go on to include uniquely convenient accessibility, ample parking, onsite restaurants, and a location steps away from TRAX Salt Lake City’s light rail system. All this in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, a city consistently recognized as one of the best in the nation for healthy lifestyles and quality of life. The result is a modern workplace that is connected to it all. 650 Main – a modern office building designed for how the next generation will work.

PopPunk, you mentioned The Broadway and it looks like they must have released an updated rendering. I was curious since the original project had been rejected, but there were no new renderings out there publicly, yet they
had started construction.

I like the materials chosen and their placement. The metal balconies work especially well on this design. I assume there will be a break in the middle. The rendering doesn't show it clearly but I guess after the break they
will continue to the other end of the block. I would love to get a description of what they're going to do with that break. If there will be an attractive plaza, an east/west walkway through the block etc., etc. I'm wondering also
if that second half is being built now or will it be constructed later. Anyone notice if there is also a lot of activity on the other end of the block?

Garrott, I'm sure you're incredibly busy with all of the projects and announcements that continue every week. If you do get a chance could you update us on the details of the new revisions of the Broadway?

Real Salt Lake to build new Boys and Girls club, community plaza, futsal court

https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/rea...munity-futsal/

Real Salt Lake is aiming to develop land in Salt Lake City through its foundation.

According to a release from the club, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will announce a new public-private proposal Thursday with the RSL Foundation and the Hansen Family Foundation at the Sugarhouse Boys and Girls club.

The proposal that Real Salt Lake will submit will include plans to develop the Sugarmount land by building a new Boys and Girls club and building a community plaza. The plaza will feature a futsal court to honor longtime RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Rimando played for Real Salt Lake from 2007 through 2019. He holds Major League Soccer records for career shutouts, wins, saves and appearances.

After the new Boys and Girls club is built, Real Salt Lake will build indoor courts in place of where the current one sits.

The announcement is set for 2 p.m. MT Thursday.

This thread is awesome and wanted to encourage you to keep the good work!

SLC looks like such a quality, livable place and seems to be densifying at a pretty good clip.

One project critique though. This Legacy Village project is one of the biggest architectural menageries I've ever seen on a project of this scale. There's a lot (too much) going on here. Looks overly fussy and just kind of cheap.

Thanks, DMRyan for the kind encouragement. LOL, I get what you're saying about the menagerie of that particular project. The developers were trying to respond to the outcry of the project being to huge for downtown Sugar House. Thus the seemingly endless variety of elemental treatments and massing undulations. I think it would make for some improvement if it just got rid of one or two of the color palettes. For example, I know that white is very on-trend, but it seems to have too much of a jarring effect here.

For any number of reasons, it looks like Salt Lake City and its greater MSA/CSA will have another upcoming decade of boomtown growth and buildup. So far the decision-makers have done a comparatively good job of keeping up with the growth. There are many exciting projects and proposals underway, which will give Salt Lake City and its Wasatch Front a leg up over the competition when it comes to manufacturing, warehousing, high tech, and transportation infrastructure. Of course, the challenge will always be how to maintain the incredible quality of outdoor life while becoming a greater Metro of 3, 4, and upwards of 5-plus million people.

Downtown Update - Pamela's Place, Under Construction

Pamela’s Place Apartments is a five-story, 100-bed facility at 525 S. 500 West that will be devoted to permanent supportive housing for the region’s chronically homeless.

In addition to affordable studio apartments, the completed building will offer residents access to a full clinic, dedicated case workers, a variety of social services and community spaces, and special facilities for gardening and pets. “It’s not a homeless shelter,” said Dan Nackerman, executive director of the Housing Authority. “It’s apartments for people perhaps coming out of homelessness or perhaps just very low-income and needing some service.”

Southern Metro Update - Aerial of Phase II Adobe Expansion

LEHI — Software giant Adobe continues construction on a project that represents a literal doubling-down of the company's investment in metro Salt Lake City, and it's one that's slated to have sizable impacts on the state's economy for years to come.

The company's $90 million facility that will, when it opens in approximately a year, will be home to an additional 1,000-plus new employees. The building will be adjacent to its seven-year-old Lehi facility off I-15 and will have much the same eye-catching appeal. It will also be the source of an estimated $2.3 billion in new wages and over $85 million in state corporate, payroll and sales taxes over the next 20 years.
