It was honest of you to show the gritty Krakow as well, not just the picturesque sights.
But the Galeria Krakowska at the begining of the thread was too much for me. I hate this building
Thanks for the pics. Krakow's one of my favourite cities.
I love the little building in the last picture.

Krakow... This year has 750 years. We invite you to our Royal City.
750 years has nothing to do with the age of the city
from wikipedia :
The earliest known settlement on the present site of Kraków was established on Wawel Hill, and dates back to the 4th century. (...)
Kraków's first appearance in historical records dates back to the 8th century, and notes that the prince of the Vistulans was baptized. The first mention of the city name dates to 966, when Abraham ben Jacob mentioned it as a notable commercial centre.
By the end of the 10th century, the city was a major center of trade.
In 1038, Kraków became the seat of the Polish government.
The city was almost entirely destroyed during the Tatar invasions. It was rebuilt in 1257, in a form which was practically unaltered, and as such received city rights under the Magdeburg Law.
Obviously this is just the city's centre but it's gorgeous nonetheless. Really, it proves that Krakow is Poland's jewel. Say what you will about other cities trying to vie for that title, like Wroclaw.... Krakow really maintains an air of elegance, even in its tattier bits. Other cities, due to damage in the wars sof the past, aren't as lucky.. they're filled to the brim with communist boxes.

There was a temporary exibition at Wawel - "Amber – Myrta".
This particular 700-kilogram jewelry box took the artist nearly twelve years to complete. In this work Myrta — drawing on his experience, employing every possible technique, and all imaginable types and colors of amber — scales the heights of artistry.
