Poll: Medium and low speed Maglev -

Will low or medium-speed maglev systems transport passengers or cargo in the near future?
Do you see realistic use cases for such Maglev systems?

Anonymous, scientific survey:

https://survey.th-deg.de/index.php/437291?lang=en

The results will be published open access (free of charge).

The survey is conducted by the nonprofit, scientific IMB (International Maglev Board) in collaboration with students from two state universities. There is no sponsorship or influence from third parties, only own contribution.

Example: The photo shows a Medium Speed Maglev System in Nagoya, Japan:

I don't see any point in investing the massive amount of money into building an isolated maglev system to transport cargo at low speeds that could be done for pennies on the dollar with conventional rail. So that's a no. And that answer should be self-evident.

Of course, an interesting argument. Please enter this in the survey, that would be nice and has an impact on the rating.

Thank you (also in the name of the students).

Isn't the entire point of maglev to go faster than conventional rail because you eliminate the friction of the wheels?

Why would you want an intentional more complex system that can be handled better by conventional rail because you're going slower.

Yes, and that is indeed a question that we are addressing in the survey, too.

Best regards,

This goes back to the whole self-evident thing...
