A new lighting scheme was being tested on the top of the tower. It looks like there will be light strips down all of the fins on the top 3 floors where the building bulges out a bit.

A slightly better shot. My camera isn't good enough to get them from a distance at night. But they make a considerable impact on the skyline.

View from the Citadel with the small Dresden Row infill in the foreground.

Wow, it is already looking so much better than it used to! I haven't noticed it when I've been downtown recently. I would like to see what it's looking like now. I live in downtown Dartmouth, but by the time I'm home from work - its getting dark lol

Agreed, even unfinished it's looking better than it has in years. Big improvement over the dirty, stained concrete appearance that has been visible throughout the city for a couple of decades (at least) now.

I feel like, for the kind of rents they’re charging here (about as much as any brand new modern building downtown) they should have replaced all those tiny chest height windows with much bigger, almost floor to ceiling windows. Would have made for nicer units and a more impressive change to the building elevations too.

Actually, floor to ceiling windows are terrible for building efficiency. Believe it or not, when this building is done, it will likely be more efficient then new, glass clad buildings like the Nova Centre. Curtain wall glass leaks warm and cool air, lets in lots of sun in the summer, and just wastes energy. As a building owner, and as a clean tech guy, this is way better than curtain wall glass.

Does anyone know if this project went bankrupt? There hasn’t been any work done since spring.

The owner is suing the contractor for 6million. Not sure exactly what for but supposedly the original tag to do the project was $10.5m and they have tried to find another contractor to complete the work and could only get a price of ~$14m

This project was shopped around for so long before they started that it was well known that it would not go well

Of course that the tallest building in the city that was already an eyesore is an even worse eyesore. I feel for the folks still living there.

I had actually toyed with the idea of renting a place there, but the fold-out beds and cabinet windows pushed me away. I'm glad I stayed away. Who is the owner on this anyway?

its i believe him and his brother Matt Metlege and was once belonged to his father company.
they don't own a large selection of buildings but a few in the downtown and Clayton park/fairview

This sounds like Templeton really tried to push for a lower cost - believing that a lower cost would be solely based on the pricing from a contractor. Perhaps the contractor who agreed to the $10m knew it couldn't be done for that and counted on extras to make up the difference. When extras weren't forthcoming they had to sue/leave the job. Now, the owner is searching for someone else to do it cheaper than possible... all without adjusting the budget to match their vision, or vision to match their budget.

You can't get more for less just because you want to.
