^^^ Two more at most. I wouldn't be surprised to see it by 2030. The North side is simply running out of room.

^ I was referring to having an ability to discuss it objectively... that's the whole point, otherwise we are just talking preferences.... BTW, it's totally fine with me if your favourite color is Gang...

No matter what you think, a large part of architecture and how people view structures it is completely subjective. There's no right or wrong answer to whether a building looks good or bad. I happened to not like the Prentice Women's building - other people liked it - so what?

Art and architecture are not completely subjective. Criticism cannot exist if there aren't approaches that are more successful than others. In other words while its not as simple as right vs wrong there are answers that are more right or more wrong.

I'm not talking about materials, ways to construct, etc. That is science - no shit. One can easily argue about using the right or wrong materials, the right or wrong ways to construct a building, the right or wrong angles to serve specific function, etc.

I'm talking specifically about aesthetic. Just because I think a building looks good or like shit does not mean that it is the right or wrong opinion.

Looks like Michels Construction, who did the caissons at River Point, will be handling the job here.

This deserves the dancing banana! Definitely among my most anticipated construction starts this year, primarily because of the long fight to get to this point. The design is great, but was better before the cantilevers were VE'd out.

What do you mean? I believe this is the current design:

I think he means that version's recesses and cantilevers are less pronounced than the first iteration of the design. There seems to be a clear bit of VE'ing of those details.

It's hard to tell from the map, but is Vue53 going on land that belongs to Nichols Park?
Was that always private land or do I have the wrong lot?

Edit: it's on the north side of 53rd. I though it was on the south side, which is park.

^Mobil Gas Station and a car wash, plus an empty lot which used to be a McDonald's.

I love the way the final rendering looks, wasn't really a fan of the earlier iteration.

A little birdie to me not to count Solstice out of the game and that it "is shining, in its original sunny shaded design." That's all I know... That's all I know.

^ Interesting, although Solstice has "not been out of the game" for about 7 or 8 years now. It's one of those things where I'll believe it when I see it...

In BVic I Trust - he's always been pretty spot on before. Plus, Hyde Park is smoking hot right now and I'm certain it's ripe for additional development news in the future. I personally can't wait to sell my place and get the hell outta Lakeview - Chicago is still my number 1 choice of cities, and with that, I'm only planning on Hyde park as my next hood.

Yeah, Hyde Park has been pretty incredible lately, it seems to be the only neighborhood outside of downtown with significant numbers of large, highrise, new construction projects going on.

Well there certainly has been pent up demand. During the last boom, I don't believe a single highrise was built in Hyde Park (outside of the University). Remarkable that that was even possible, if you ask me. Must've been the NIMBYs

It wont be that long. U of C is offering employee down payment assistance all the way up to I-55. There's a field house under construction at Ellis Park at 35th. A new pedestrian bridge also on 35th. Drive around the Kenwood historic district and you see evidence of a lot of interior renovations on the old mansions. A new Marianos on 39th. Infill here and there.

Lake Meadows and Michael Reese are the big questions and will probably be the final push.

Perceptions of safety are changing. I see women jogging alone on 31st street every day. Northsiders will be the last to know.
