Austin

Austin reminds me of Minneapolis more by the day. It’s a testament to how far Austin’s skyline has come in such a short amount of time. As ludicrous as it sounds, the big league projects are still to come in the future as Austin’s skyline grows in mass, volume, and size while reaching ever higher heights. All of the tallest and most impactful projects are either under construction or still in the pipeline.
Aside from San Diego and Minny, the skylines that remind me most of Austin are the Australian and Canadian ones. Most other US skylines don’t remind me of Austin at all because majority of their skylines were built pre-1990 when architecture was different than what it’s been since 2000. Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, LA, SF, NYC, Philly, Boston, Pittsburgh, etc etc have skylines dominated by tall buildings from the 1960-1990s. Even with their newer buildings added in recent years, all of their skylines still look decades old. Austin’s skyline looks brand new in comparison, because almost all the noticeably impactful buildings were built after the 2000s with only one or two exceptions.
