Western District Photos

The western shores of Hong Kong Island is home to a lot of old buildings, as it is the original colonial settlement back over a hundred years ago. The buildings aren't as old as the colony itself though, but there certainly is a lot of grit.

Meanwhile, redevelopments continue, and are expected to continue as a subway extension is coming.

But then, the tram rules around this part of town.

The water is never too far away.

Western District is great, with lots of old buildings and a more traditional feel than other HK Island neighbourhoods, but I found Kennedy Town (near the trolley terminus) to be quite dull. It was strangely quiet despite the very high density.

That said, there were some pretty cool streets further up the hill, towards Pok Fu Lam Road.

This stood out as interesting to me because you don't see many sheer glass walls that are dirty.. usually they are expensive in the first place (at least that's what I assumed) so people usually keep them clean.

The idea got me thinking about our present structures in the future.
