This is some BS and so extremely frustrating.

If the city keeps demanding garages they should subsidize it so they can put more underground.

Thanks Crested, I recall that now. I'm OK with it. Rather they sell it and get a different high-rise developed there so it's not one stumpy superblock.

That would be nice since the height restrictions or 525' to 550' on that parcel.

One of the cranes (west side) is coming down. It is now shorter than the building itself. I’m wondering if they’ll lower the rest of it tomorrow or on 12/26.

Well dang. We're losing a lot of cranes and no new ones going up.

3.15.21 Update

Looking NW from 2nd Ave and Monroe.
Notice the green bars going in different direction along the parking garage. Hopefully whatever they do livens up the street.

Couple photos of Society progress from today. There still seems to be quite a bit of work occurring in many different areas of the building, despite the Katerra shut down.

Good shots. It's looking a lot better as it approaches completion--I'm digging the extra-height wraparound glass.

That doesn't look nearly as Stalinist as I expected. Good color and contrast.

I don't have the link handy, but I did see a recently submitted fact-finding for "phase 2" of this project. Didn't see any interesting details on the document I saw, but the fact that it was submitted within the last 3 weeks was encouraging.

That looks much better with that parking garage covered up. Ended up looking better then I imagined.

Prediction: This gets sold after completion and the only change the buyer will make is replacing that garage covering. Looks terrible IMO

Yea, I think it was posted around May 19th or so IIRC. I submitted a record's request a couple weeks ago for it, but there was nothing available for them to send to me unfortunately. I'll try again in a couple of weeks.

From what I have heard, it sounds like the floor count/height is not yet set, but they are aiming for the high 20s to maybe 30 for a floor count. So it will be probably be 7-10 stories taller than Phase 1. I'll take anything we can get!

I can't find anything online about when this one is due to start leasing or open completely. It seems that crews have been doing "finishing touch" work, such as planting trees on the amenity level, finishing the amenity level railing, installing lighting in the parking garage, covering the exposed mechanical items/AC units on the roof with cladding, etc. Scaffolding protecting the sidewalk has been removed already as well. There is still some curb work to be done, such as closing off the now unusable driveways on 2nd Ave.

I'm assuming they will put a parking lot on the Van Buren frontage in the interim before the second building breaks ground? I noticed the parking lot in one rendering. Or will it just be gravel until Phase 2 begins?

No parking lot, just DG for dust proofing until Phase 2 starts construction, which they are trying for 1st half of 2022 if possible, but with the speed of the City, I wouldn't bet on that. I think Phase 1 was planned to be complete end of August but that might be pushed back a month based on work remaining.

Morning Walk - 9/19

I went for a long walk this morning and snapped a whole bunch of pictures of downtown. Enjoy!
