And I'm guessing it won't have any above ground parking judging from the rendering. Parking levels which end up being counted toward the tower's overall floor count usually have very low floor-to-floor heights, sometimes only 8 feet.
1st floor is retail, 2nd floor is a grocery store, floors 3 to 9 are office surrounding an inner parkade (so it will be partly parking on these floors but have office space floor heights). floors 10 to 46 are residential (condos) and then the crown is supposed to about 9 "floors" in height.

there are rumours that there are actually only 30 residential floors rather than 36 which would affect the height as well.

Ten feet per floor is pretty low , even for residential.
Not necessarily true. There are numerous commercial structures here in Downtown DC which are 12-stories and 120ish feet tall.

The Westin Peachtree in Atlanta is 73-stories and 723 feet tall.

holy cow, a forty-six storey building in the Peg?

That is serious! There is nothing in the forty-plus range in the Province.

Tallest in height is currently the 33 floor 201 Portage at 128 m (420 ft). Tallest by floor count is 55 Nassau at 38 floors. However, it's an apartment block built in 1970 and only measures 109 m (358 ft).

170m would be pretty massive compared to everything else here. Even if it gets scaled down (which tends to happen to many Winnipeg buildings), people will still be pretty happy. The lot it's proposed for is a big ugly surface parking lot in the middle of downtown. The more of those that get filled, the better. Combine this project with the Convention Centre expansion and the proposed development by the MTS Centre and Winnipeg is actually starting to achieve some sort of density downtown. Well, with buildings at least. Still need to convince those pesky suburbanites that there's stuff worth doing downtown and that you won't get stabbed. For the record, I work downtown and spend many evenings there and I've yet to be stabbed

They had a contest to name the building. The winner is supposed to be announced on Friday, I believe.

Downtown tower project to be revamped

A proposed downtown development -- the 53-storey Sky City Centre condominium/retail/office tower -- will look different than what was envisioned, but how much different won't be revealed until next year.
A senior official for Toronto's Fortress Real Developments Inc., which is developing the tower along with Windsor, Ont.,-based Mady Development Corp., said changes are being made to the design -- a 44-storey building topped with a nine-storey, glass-wrapped pentice, or crown.
"But we're not making that announcement (about the new design) quite yet," said Ben Myers, senior vice-president of market research and analytics at Fortress.
Myers said it will likely be March or April before the new design is unveiled.

Good news, recent pre-sale figures put this proposal at aprx: 190 units sold or near the 50% sold threshold. We may see this puppy begin some time in the new year....

Cancelled

*May 31st, 2018

https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/lo...484235913.html

Quote:
The developer of Winnipeg’s beleaguered SkyCity Centre has announced it will be sending out refunds to buyers who put down deposits of 10 per cent on condo units, admitting it isn’t feasible to move forward with construction.

The news comes two days after a class-action lawsuit was filed against Fortress Real Developments, the company behind the project at Smith Street and Graham Avenue, in Manitoba’s Court of Queen’s Bench.

The proposed development was marketed as a "beacon of change" for the city when it was first announced in 2013. Had things gone forward as planned, the $200-million, 45-storey tower would have become Winnipeg’s tallest at the time.

Developers said the mixed-use development, called a "vertical village," would set the standard in "luxury living and urban lifestyle." However, it has been plagued by problems from the start, with construction consistently delayed.
