I think Drexel is pretty serious about this!

I like the skin of the proposed super tall. It reminds me of the raining code in the Matrix movies, which, as part of a major tech hub, would be appropriate. I would love to see it lit up at night!

If the Phillies need a new stadium every 30 years, they alone are going to bankrupt the city. The Bank has a lot of years left.

Not only do I love the choice of buildings but the location is also very good. I really hope they construct the things.

WOW!! Just when I was giving up hope on my hometown. This is beyond a jaw dropping event, it's Friken Paradise!!

Thanks Drexel and Brandywine! Please build it quick. I'm not as young as some of these bloggers on here. I wanna be around to see it!!

^I thought it was going to look stupid with the rest of the city. Turned out hot.
I actually always thought Evo was one of the ugliest skyscrapers in Philly, but to each their own I guess.

I don't think this needs to be mentioned for the 100th time but my jaw dropped when I saw the renderings. I hope it actually comes to fruition. I'll "only" be in my early 30s if the timespan is 15 years.

I don't fully get how this meshes with plans to cap the railyards.

http://articles.philly.com/2015-12-1...xel-university

Is that part of this? Separate? Both? Some integration but additional plans under the capping and Innovation Neighborhood notion that are discrete and different from this?

30th Street Master Plan is not finalized, and it's a lot of the same actors/constituencies.

http://drexel.edu/now/archive/2016/M...ouse-March-16/

http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...Boards_web.pdf

So I imagine there will be a lot of overlap/integration. Which is good.

Oh wow, I swear I thought this thing had always originally been English, Scottish and Irish or something or whatever English-speaking, then gradually changed as time and random immigrants went by.

Interesting to know you guys went up there (probably very few of yours anyway), but I think we'd better focus on our own case, now.

It looks like this Drexel/Brandywine proposal is for the at-grade part of the wider rail yards project. In the image below (taken and modified from the december .pdf) you can see that the Schuylkill Yards proposal so far includes the entirety of the orange rimmed Section 8, except for the Cira 2 and Firestone plots. Since both those have been rumored for other non-related towers I'm fairly certain they're not included in this deal but still earmarked for future projects.

Hey everyone... First time long time (actually was around in the late 90's early 2000's under a different name) but this project pushed me over the top to create a new account.. But anyway. The dork in me decided to really try and do a floor count on the main tower and unless I'm counting wrong I'm definately up over 80 floors. Maybe someone else can check it out and correct me if I'm wrong.

I only wish the time frame was shorter because its quite a long time. But its still similar to master plans like Battery Park City or Riverside Center and will further create some nice density and bulk for the area.

The project area doesn't go that far west. It stops at the JFK curve, for the most part, short of the Firestone site.

It's neither, it would be for Amtrak. This quote is taken from the .pdf I linked right above your post.

Quote:
Incorporation of new Amtrak needs including a potential
state-of-the-art Heavy Maintenance Rail Facility and Cat Car
Shed within the Penn Coach Yards. Amtrak has asked the design
team not to preclude the possibility of this capital investment
at 30th Street Station. The facility is seen as critical new
infrastructure required to support future Amtrak Northeast
Corridor service, and Philadelphia is one of several candidate
sites being evaluated at this time
It looks like the space is simply reserved for the possibility that Amtrak builds the facility here. I would think it's possible that should another city be picked by Amtrak, that parcel could open back up for development.

On closer inspection, you are correct. Good catch.

Potential Amtrak HSR maintenance facility. Penn Coach Yards is one of several sites in contention. Needless to say, if they settle on a different site we'd see Race Street and some buildings there instead.
