1000m skyscraper?

Hi guys,

I'm new here although I've looked around here a couple of times. Like most of you I guess, I'm fascinated by skyscrapers and I had a question.

I thought I read here that they were planning on building a 1000m skyscraper in Dubai but I can't find it.

Am I wrong or..?

Also, the diagrams pages with all the different buildings are too cool. Kudos to whoever made them.

Thanks

George

First a word of friendly advice : This forum is only for buildings currently under construction that are over 300 meters or 1000 ft. Discussion threads belong elsewhere.

No big deal though.
As for the 1000 meter skyscraper , there was a plan for it but if it's still actually proposed , check the proposals thread. As well , IF somebody drew a diagram , you'll have to make sure that the proposed buildings tab is checked when doing a search in the diagrams section.
Chances are though that the recession has killed that pipe-dream anyway. Just as well , I thought it was an ugly building but that's just my opinion.

Thanks, I'm sure within a few years it'll be back on the table again

I saw something in one of the post in the long thread about 2.5km?

That's not the actual height, right?

Thanks

George

The Nakheel Tower was planned to built until 2020 with height of 1140 meters. But it seems to be cancelled now. In late 2008 excavation has begun, but in March 2009 stopped.

if you wanna talk about a white elephant, the nakheel would have been just that. the burj dubai will work because it's really not that big and many of the floors are residential and hotel.

No way the Nakheel is getting built in this economy. Burj Dubai **ehem, Khalifah** was one thing, but I can't see how the Nakheel would get built, much less profitable.

Well the Burj Kalifah (Dubai) at 818 meters (2,717 feet) beat the half mile benchmark for the first time in history. The next benchmark to beat will be the one kilometer (1000 meter, 3,281 feet) mark. I dont think this will happen in the immediate future but when somebody does get a chance to build a WTB that will dethrown the Burj I think they will shoot for 1,000+ meters. After someone suceeds at that then there will be serious talk about a one mile high skyscraper, hopefully in the year 2056 to build Frank Lloyd Wright's mile high "Illinois" on the 100th anniversary of its design.

In India or Japan it would be more practical and needed, and India too if they could afford it.
