This may have already been said earlier, but I can 100% confirm that the white panels on the Sears building will be coming down. James KM Cheng is the architect working on the reno job - which is a little surprising for me because I thought he mostly did residential besides the Shaw tower.

Yes this certainly isnt a rumour, the building will be reclad with a mix of glass and other materials.

Will look much better but wont be iconic or that interesting really.

Just skimmed through the last 2 pages of the Sears thread and I didn't see anything about retail along Robson and along Granville. There is going to be smaller retail suites at street level, is there not?

See,this is a loss IMO. Yes, we have wanted the Sears building to be re-clad, but it is anti-climatic to have it re-clad as a dull addition to our city, given its extremely prominent location in the heart of our entertainment district.

I would love for it to be at lease as interesting (in forms of lights, signs, and street front retail) as the Future Shop building across from it.

I posted in Sears Pacific Centre Closing! but meant to post it here.

It was about the use of bevelled design glass at the st moritz hotel in NYC, and how it mitigated traffic noise & unsightliness. Not an option for this project, I know.
