It looks like the same kind as they used for the hotel: semi-mobile and on the street. Or at least on the street. That's all I can really tell from the construction cam.
I was downtown for an event at Symphony Hall and snapped a photo. The base for this crane makes sense but it's definitely the first time I've seen anything like it.
That crane doesn't look very big from that view. I assume they'll add more sections later?
Yeah, they always jack up the vertical sections. Note that it's being assembled on site by the smaller crane. They just usually start much bigger than this of course.
Man...this crane. Never seen a tower crane base like this. Is this a Stafford Crane? It just doesn't look like it would be stable when I look at it from the construction cam. This crane needs to go up to 320'. Is the platforms even bolted down or are the relying completely on the weighted concrete blocks?
Those enormous steel plates (four of them) on all four corners are weighted with thousands of pounds of concrete and then there are thousands more pounds of concrete surrounding the crane. It's not going anywhere. Do you think the crane company would have done this setup if there was any doubt?
I have fallen victim to addiction of watching this building's construction on the cam. Perhaps someone with construction experience can answer this question - is there any correlation between the footings they are pouring in the ground and the routing of the ramps into the garage? Do I have this right? I think the garage access will be from behind the Hampton Inn from 1st Street.

I think garage enter access will be from Polk between Kenect and the Hampton. So I'm guessing the exit will probably be behind Hampton...or vice versa.
I don't know how high rise construction works but I was seeing what they're putting on the ground as a form for the ground floor. They don't pour directly onto the dirt, maybe?
edit: can see people walking under it so you're right, that's the second floor.

Nope...my guess is they should have poured it before starting on the second floor. This project is getting built as strange as Block 23, lol. Speaking of Block 23, I have yet to see the elevators. I thought they were putting them up with the temp crane yesterday, but they are the HVAC units. Where are the elevator's going??
