Nice, thanks!
The angles really make a statement (and will hopefully detract from what's to the west)

I think they are still proposing ways to pay for it.
I've changed it.

That she is pretty! And such a wonderful investment the City of New Westminster has for making sure the office tower component is a go. Surely the benefits of such a beautiful building, despite its relatively small size, will certainly be worth it!

From the blog...

Quote:
Mayor Wayne Wright remains confident that the city has made the right choice in building the office tower.

“If you have faith in what we are doing, which I do, there is no doubt that building at some point – and there is no rush – is going to have somebody that wants to buy it. There is going to be people who want to have their businesses there,” he said. “All the companies that made a bid on it said the same thing – that this is an outstanding location because of the SkyTrain, because of being in the centre of the downtown, because of what it’s part of.”
And he is absolutely right!!! This building is a great investment for New Westminister, no doubt about it!

Um, you do know the original developer pulled out and that the city unsuccessfully tried to find a new buyer for the project? You might wish to be more sparing with your investment advising practice.

The answer to that question is a couple of pages back, therefore I stand by my original comment...

Taken today from Plaza 88 - surely a contender for the most dank, uninviting shopping centre ever conceived. Someone with good camera equipment + photography competence could have lots of fun creating a dystopian, Blade Runner-esque photoset here on a dark day. Apparently people at Translink are (rightfully) livid with the outcome.

I wonder if First Capital is having second thoughts about paying over $100M for Plaza 88?

Other than Plaza 88 being built around Skytrain, what does Translink have to do with it which gives them the right to be "livid" of the outcome? I didn't know they had a stake on it, do they?

With regards to New West Civic Centre, its looking really good. I admit, it seems a bit slow to rise despite only having 11 floors, but only four (or five) slabs to go based on the latest pic, right? I can't wait for it to be topped off, its going to be such a beautiful building.

I love the concept of Plaza 88, although I do agree that the look is very sterile.
I a friend the 'walkthrough' youtube video, and he said it looked like real life minecraft.

And of course at a personal level, the planners are nerds like us and get excited at well-designed urbanism + agitated when it could be a lot better.

I agree Plaza 88 has a lot of room to improve, but I think a lot of its bleakness is just the high vacancy rate of the place and the fact far too many fast food restaurants opened there (making it less a shopping centre and more a foodcourt). I think it still has potential, but it might take more people living/working in the area (which the Civic centre should help with).

If nothing else, it's a super convenient Safeway to pop into on the way home for last minute purchases.
