James Street North
A small taste of Europe

This old, colourful, and multicultural neighbourhood is just north of downtown Hamilton.

It's not supposed to look like Europe (no where in Ontario does), this neighbourhood just has a European flavour, hence a small taste of Europe.

I don't know.
There are many Italians in this area too, and many of them came from the same town of Raculmuto in Sicily.
English is a minority language on this street.

Thanks for all the pics! I would have never known all the great spots in Hamilton especially from the "driving by" experience. I think next time I go by I'll make a planned stop for a meal!

One thing about Ontario is the variety of cities and Hamilton is a little industrial, little multi-cultural surprise to most people. A little scruffy town can be appealing, although the smell of steel with forever keep the yuppies away.

^^again, the European part is the culture not the architecture.
And heckles, we keep our yuppies well segregated in Burlington and Ancaster, but sometimes they show up in this hood for the monthly art crawl

I remember the last WC that street was party central, the street would close down for celebration.

That first picture of the train station has a lot do with why James St North has a taste of Europe. Most immigrants travelled on a train from Halifax to Hamilton and walked out that front door of the station and settled in Hamilton.
