South-End and Downtown Photo Tour by Bedford_DJ

This is Part 3 of my photo tours this week. Today I hit the South/West-End through to Downtown and eventually down to the Seaport.

My route went like this;

My starting point was the corner of Coburg/Spring Garden and Robie. I went down Coburg (Robie – Oxford), down Oxford/Beaufort (Coburg – Inglis), up Inglis (Beaufort – Wellington), up Wellington (Inglis – South), through a shortcut to Summer Street, up Summer St (University – College), down College (Summer – Martello), across Victoria Park, up South Park to Spring Garden, down SGR (South Park – Grafton), up Grafton (SGR – Sackville), down Sackville (Grafton – Lower Water), onto the Boardwalk (Sackville Landing - Terminal Rd), up Terminal to Lower Water (Terminal - Bishop), up Bishop (Lower Water – Barrington), and finally up Barrington to the first bus sign with a 8_ written on it.

All photos taken by me today;

My starting point:

Dalhousie Administration Building [LEED]:

Southview Condos:

The Atrium [LEED]:

5800 South:

Life Sciences Research Centre and Biosciences [LEED]:

Trillium:

City Centre Atlantic:

Herald Lands (Convention Centre):

Roy Building:

1595 Barrington:

United Gulf (TexPark):

Work on the boarwalk North of Sackville Street:

I'm seeing green. A belated Saint Patrick's Day perhaps?

Salter Street Development (sorry I went overboard with this one):

Water Street Power Plant [LEED]:

Seaport Farmer's Market [LEED]:

The Alexander:

Non-Site Specific Photos:

Note: Halifax's newest pub "Durty Nelly's" is in the black building

Panorama:

Hopefully this will be glass soon

You've had quite the March break!

Halifax really seems like its coming together, lets all hope for a good construction season this spring/summer.

I can't wait to see Trillium rise.

LOL yep.

I'll be happy if just the Trillium and Salter Street get cranes up.

Same here, man.

BTW I've added in the Trillium photos for you.

Awesome job on the the photos this week. We really appreciate it.

You seem really enthusiastic. So just out of curiosity are you thinking of pursuing the field once you get out of High School?

Thanks Jonovision

Well photography has always been one of my interests, politics and engineering being the others, but I don't know if I could do it for a living. Due to low math/physics marks, and a lack of interest in math, I'm leaning more towards politics at the moment but I've always wanted to take a form of photography on the side.

There has always been a few things I've been interested in; photography, urban living, construction/development, and politics.

I've actually been told I am one of the few people that can sit through a council meeting and still be sane and awake by the end of it.

Besides for the political side I like to think of it this way; if Peter Kelly can become mayor, a fiddle-player is the premier and Harper is the prime minister how tough can it be?

Yes, thanks for going to the trouble of taking these photos. It's nice for those who are out of town.. many of these sites I haven't seen since August.

It's true that the city does seem to be moving forward, but I wish it were happening faster. It is interesting how a lot of big developments from years ago (e.g. United Gulf) still haven't happened, but a lot of other projects have showed up and moved forward almost right away, like the Trillium and the NSP offices.

It's really too bad they tore down that red house on Wellington Street. I wish there were more respect for the city's history and appearance. There are only so many houses like that and once they are gone they are gone.

The state of Barrington Street is really disappointing these days. It looks like the main street of some failed little town, when in reality it could have many more shops and renovated buildings. The waterfront, on the other hand, is looking better and better.

Thanks Spitfire75 and Someone123.

I think this will be the last of my photo tours for this week.

I am still hoping to get a tour through Bedford and Sackville but since the construction sites out here are few and far between I am going to wait for a warm sunny day when I can get my bicycle out.

I'm hoping to make this a regular occurance. I am aiming for the next set to be in late June, hopefully after a few more sites get underway, and possibly one in August just before school starts back up for some good crane shots.
