I guess it depends ... curvy streets combined with greenery make a pleasant streetscape and might be attractive to walkers. The hills I have to agree with you. Not that there aren't plenty of those in the North end, but they don't stand in between me and Superstore!

Just between you and me, I have watched my boyfriend drive to ValuFood which was also a three minute walk away. Some people will drive anywhere.

We walk every night in our neighborhood and rarely run across other walkers unless they're waiting for a dog to pee. I think people just don't walk around here. Not in the winter, anyway.

Heck, not even horses can walk here in the winter!

Quote:
A police officer was injured Thursday after she fell from her horse on Halifax’s Citadel Hill.

The female officer, a rider with Halifax Regional Police’s mounted unit for about four years, was riding Cruiser on the grass along Rainnie Drive. They were at the base of Citadel Hill across from the parking lot behind Centennial Pool at 12:25 p.m. when the horse slipped and the officer fell.

Her horse, also known as Cruise, was soon rounded up on Citadel Hill without injury, police said.

The officer, however, was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to her leg.

We've been in the neighborhood since last spring and there were plenty of warm-weather walkers. Maybe the cold is keeping more people indoors.

It's a great area to stroll in, and the hills (especially heading up Larry Uteck or Southgate from the Bedford Highway) offer a bit of challenge to those who want to take it up a notch.

Looks like Kiel is planning more commercial/retail development for the area:

Last time I had Pizza Pizza was when we lived in Toronto approx 10 years ago. It wasn't very good. Hopefully, things have changed.

One thing we have in NS that is lacking in BC and Ont is easy access to awesome pizza and donairs (thank you, Greek and Lebanese communities!). Growing up in Sackville, where there is a pizza joint every 50 metres, you couldn't help but sample a great deal of the wares.

Work has started on the large site next to TD Bank. Possible Drive-thrus according to the map. Maybe McDonald's, Tim Horton's or Starbucks.

This area has been grubbed now, I imagine site work will start soon.

Another crane was in the process of going up today on the Universal Lands on Jacob Lane. This will no doubt be the same as the "Abigail" currently under construction. Photos by me:

The new NSLC store next to Sobeys has now opened. I was in last week. Cool store. Very well done inside.

I am looking forward to seeing designs for the Queen Street NSLC. It could be a great flagship store.

At one point they were talking about having 2 levels. Not sure if it's still being considered (I guess it would be in the floor plans).

My friend is rigging and running the crane at the Gardens IV site. He said there is a lot of difficulty with the wind on Larry Uteck. Even on days where its 30 km/h it feels like double or triple that when bringing a load up!

The downtown HRM_by_Design by-laws imposes a limit on the width of apartment buildings. I think that would be a good idea for the whole of the HRM. The two buildings pictured above would look better if the top one was was split into two buildings and the bottom one could be split into three buildings (and go higher if necessary). I am thinking more in terms of the King's Wharf development with narrower, slightly taller buildings, which look better and more inviting than extremely wide apartment buildings.

Thank you for all your pictures.

Do we know what's going up by Shoppers yet? Forgive me if it's been mentioned already but I didn't see it in recent pages.

Thanks!

This is a case where permitting more height can improve the quality of building designs.
