Sorry, but to be blunt, this is nothing short of a monstrosity.

It may look funky now, but it will look HORRIBLY dated in 20 years time.

I'm really surprised by all the hatred being shown to this building. This building is innovative, organic, shocking, and absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of a Geiger painting somehow. I wish we had the ability to build unique structures like that here!

Going against the received opinion a bit, but I quite like it. Brilliant really.

I think inspired by one of Geiger's works surely would look a hell of a lot better and monumental than this. This just looks like urban artsy-fartsy design. I'm just not a fan of this style - even though i may dislike it (greatly, in some instances) - I try to be objective whenever possible...I can still appreciate what they're doing.

I was wondering how long before someone decided to tell us how beautiful and "a work of genius" this design was.

I won't even get into that conversation; I think the thing speaks for itself. Looking at the renderings of it superimposed over actual photos of the surrounding photos, I was struck how rundown the Parisian suburbs look... in a decade or two, this building will fit right in. I realize the French were looking for a distinctly "non-American" skyline... I think the result is a resounding endorsement of American skylines, quite frankly.

Dubai is overrated, they have so many crazy-ass designs it is all starting to look the same to me. There's plenty of good architects out there. Dubai may have a million really tall buildings, but the city's layout, and character aren't on the same level as cities that have been around for decades or centuries.

They've got some pretty stupid looking structures (and some good ones) there too...

What the hell's w/ them trying to build that collection of famous buildings from around the world?? It just shows some of the weird thinking that's going on there. Dubai is the city equivalent of that rich kid that has everything just because he can.

From the renders, it looks like some one ripped the top off of the tower.

Love it or loathe it, it's certainly a brave choice for such a tall skyscraper. Will it look dated in a few decades? Its possible. Will it be a Parisian icon? That is possible too. For all those immediately calling this thing out as disgusting, to each his own, but for those declaring this something that will still reek years on down the road, don't call it too early. For our country which could come up with nothing better than the Freedom Tower, out of goodness knows how many wonderful design proposals, for such an opportune location as Ground Zero, we don't have much firm ground to stand on in judging high-profile monumental buildings like this. I give the French much kudos for having the balls to select this, Tour Generali, and eventually Tour Signal--of which the designs are equally vexing--for the sterile crop of skyscrapers that is La Defense.

That said, I strongly dislike it as much I do Thom Mayne and 90% of his buildings.

i like it. don't think it would fly in a city like houston or chicago but it works with paris.

pretty much no building built within the last two and half decades really has to worry about looking dated...that was a problem from post war til the late 70's.
