It's unfortunate how almost all of these Victorian institutional buildings were torn down in Halifax.

A few other cities in Canada have reused them and they look pretty good. There are also some slightly horrifying old hospitals but MaRS in Toronto for example reused an old building as part of a research facility.

The Centre for Clinical Research (CCR) is located on University Avenue, adjacent to the Mackenzie Building of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The CCR is a program of the QEII Health Sciences Centre - one of Canada's leading teaching hospitals, located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The QEII has a strong commitment to health research in all disciplines.

The Centre for Clinical Research administers, facilitates and coordinates all research which is carried out at the QEII.

The front of the bldg might have been upadated, since it resembles the MacKenzie bldg.

The old civic hospital was on the site of the present IWK parking garage (where the pictures were taken, great spot for photos).
It unfortunately is in desperate need of work inside! I have been to many meetings of the medical research ethics board there, and it is horrible. you freeze in the winter and sweat in the summer.

It is also bloody confusing that you have the Centre for Clinical Research on one side of the street (part of QEII) and the Clinical Research Centre on the other (part of Dal). Although actually I hope that the CRC stays even after the renos that they have planned on Campus.

I feel like I've woken up in some sort of parallel universe, where everything is the opposite of normal. Someone pinch me. I'm not in Kansas anymore.

I didn't see this one before when it was posted. This is a great find. The contrast between the water and city skyline makes a great picture.

I think this looks great. I seriously can't understand why the heritage people don't like (somewhat) tall buildings. They must goes nuts when they visit Toronto.

This is the new Halifax, a mix of old and new, whether the heritage people like it or not. I think Halifax has a good mix.

I'm curious: does anyone have any skyline pics that have renderings of all potential downtown developments (Nova Centre, Twisted Sisters, Roy Building, etc.)?
