If you want to add Quebec City to that list - we are at 1 for 2021. Metro area at 1 as well. I can confirm, just one. Tuesday 15 June sur l’avenue Duval, près de l’intersection de la rue de la Sapinière-Dorion Ouest. Which puts it in Limoilou about 2.5 K from my home.

Coming up on the anniversary of the weird Halloween double murder, though.

Montreal now at 25. The victim was 16 years old and the murder is apparently gang-related. Members of the rival gang celebrated the murder on Snapchat

Edit: apparently no. 26 just happened today.

Ottawa's been fairly quiet, with none since August I think. Holding at 14.

Toronto has been continuing at a steady pace (façon de parler) and now at 71.

Would that make it easier to catch the culprits?

As far as I know the police already know who the culprits are. But anyway, it looks like Montreal gangs are going full Chicago-style this year. Random shooting in a rival’s neighbourhood (as in shooting all over the place, aiming at random buildings, etc.) is apparently one of the new things they do.

It's not clear if the assholes who posted that video are responsible for the murder.

I always thought wild west Dodge city Calgary was a bit above average for homicides in the country but it has less homicides this year than cities half or a third it's size like Hamilton, Ottawa and London, Ontario

Well, Quebec City is now at 2, a murder last night (Tuesday, October 26) in the Ste-Foy area near the Pyramid (if you don't know the city, near Université Laval).

Man found in a sea of blood according to La Presse and le Journal de Quebec.

In French, as usual. DeepL or Google translate will give you the gist.

Does this mean Regina is at 11 or 12 now?

Some movement (in the wrong direction) in a few major cities in recent days.

Toronto 75
Montréal 31
Ottawa 15

London is having a horrible year.

It is sitting at 9 + the 4 killed in the terror attack. I separate them because such an attack can happen anywhere at anytime as we saw in QC but doesn't truly reflect the level of crime.

Still 9 is very high for London and gives the city a rate of 2.2/100k. Last year the city had a total of 4.
