Ah... I did not know that. Thanks for clarifying.

Ismaili Center Houston

Site work is underway for the first such project of this type in the US. Designs will be revealed next month. A previous announcement stated that Farshid Moussavi will be the architect in charge of design.

Got a reply to my email and this is why it is important to go to the source.

48 units planned!!!

One parking spot per unit, so that is a 33% reduction at least.

Small retail space on first floor. He said to think coffee-shop sized.

Currently going through bidding.

A couple of items of note currently on the Planning Commission's agenda - up for review next week.

Fairfield Waugh - Waugh at West Dallas in the emerging West Dallas / Allen Parkway corridor.

Another inner loop Jack in the Box bites the dust?

Anyways as nice as all this infill development is, that whole area is horribly un-walkable. The City of Houston sucks at building and maintaining the narrowest sidewalks, doesn't put in crosswalks, doesn't care about the streetscape at all. Given the city's fiscal woes and leadership that won't change.

I guess residents could cross the street to the Whole Foods, but there's a lot of traffic and its sort of unpeaceful and unpleasant.

Nope. It's on the southwest corner, across W. Dallas from the Jack-in-the-Box. The Houston Area Women's Center is biting the dust.

I guess the State of Texas will be pleased

Oh well, have they done anything with the empty JITB at Shepherd and Washington yet? Guess not.

Demo permit went out for that one a couple of months back. I think it might be tied to the street work taking place on Shepherd & Durham.

So when did they take the antenna's down from the "Hypodermic Needle" Building? I hope they put them back up. That was such a unique building in the HOU skyline when I lived there.

The old ones were deteriorating thus had to come down and Texas Children’s Hospital (the new owners) opted not to replace them to save a few bucks.

East River

More tenants coming per HBJ

Boutique grocer, Austin-based ice cream shop among new tenants for East River mixed-use development

By Jeff Jeffrey – Reporter, Houston Business Journal
Oct 26, 2021

Houston-based Midway has landed three new tenants for its long-awaited East River development, which broke ground in August.

Broham Fine Soul Food & Groceries, Lick Honest Ice Creams and Urbn Dental have signed on to lease space in the first phase of the 150-acre mixed-use development in the historic Fifth Ward, adjacent to the East End District. One of the concepts is new, and another is new to Houston.

“On the heels of the recent groundbreaking, we are thrilled to announce these additional businesses that East River Phase I will introduce to the area,” said Lacee Jacobs, vice president of strategic leasing and advisory. “From innovative and globally competitive companies to cutting-edge local dining and service concepts, Midway is committed to curating a dynamic mix that enhances the surrounding community."
Quote:
East River’s first phase, which will span about 26 acres at the intersection of Jensen Drive and Clinton Drive, is slated to be complete in 2023. It will include approximately 250,000 square feet of office space, 110,000 square feet of retail space and more than 13,000 square feet of plaza greenspace, as well as The Laura, a five-story, 360-unit multifamily project.

East River 9, a nine-hole, par-three golf course open to the public, and Riverhouse Houston, a family-friendly restaurant and patio bar, are expected to open in 2022.

Given its location along Buffalo Bayou, East River will also be connected to nearly 500 miles of bike lanes.

The McNair project on the south side of Uptown now has a name.

M Square

From KPF's profile of the project

Quote:
In the US’s most sprawling city, M Square introduces a new, vertically-integrated, mixed-use paradigm that maximizes green space and creates an iconic destination on both the skyline and ground plane.

The two-tower complex in Houston’s Uptown offers an array of uses, enlivened by an active podium and landscaped central plaza. Organizing the office, residential, hospitality, and retail programs into distinct sections, the design creates synergistic, vertical neighborhoods, with each component enhanced by those surrounding it.

The taller of the two towers comprises hotel, rental apartments, and condominiums above a retail base. With balconies carved into the floorplates and green spaces distributed across the levels, the lush landscape of the plaza is carried through the podium into the tower. Elevated lobbies, public art displays, and a range of fitness and relaxation spaces, including outdoor pools, offer a unique hospitality experience while adding a luxurious element for the residences above.

The lower tower incorporates the neighboring parking structure—capped by the crystalline ballroom—between levels of retail at the base and flexible office space above. The chiseled balcony motif continues into this tower’s façade design, providing outdoor spaces for each level and visually unifying the development.

With ambitious sustainability targets of LEED and WELL certification, the project incorporates future-proofing into the parking structure, which is strategically designed to be repositioned into office space as the city’s needs change. Solar shading is integrated into the façade, and reduced footprints limit overall solar radiation and allow for more efficient water management systems on the site.
