Well, the data for San Jose says 66% of homebuyers are married and 52% of homebuyers are Asian and 49% of homebuyers have a graduate degree--so most likely we're talking a married couple where at least one of the spouses is foreign born, with technical degrees and most likely work in tech, dunno if that qualifies as 'tech bros' but most likely not,.

I was curious and looked up Pittsburgh to see how it is doing and they are at 38 average age (good to see that it is on the young side, although I'm not sure I'd read that much into this since younger just might mean cheaper). Not sure how that list got put together, but it doesn't seem to be comprehensive.

I'm curious how Milwaukee and Indianapolis didn't get included on the original list when smaller metros like Grand Rapids and Rochester were, but anyway, they both skew younger:

38 Milwaukee ($87,192)
38 Indianapolis ($79,282)

Only old residents can afford to buy, the young all rent or more likely still live with their parents because they could never dream of buying on their own. Also immigration. The median resident of Miami's metro probably doesn't even live in the US until they are in their late 30s.

Old people and young people of all stripes like the desert and Florida. I like Florida!

Phoenix has a lower median age than most other big cities in America. Almost all older retiree types that move to Arizona have the ability to buy which is skewing the outcome of the information, same is probably true for Florida cities.

2019 population of Phoenix 1.68 million.
Phoenix Median Age - 33 years

% of Persons 65 years and over:
US - 16.5%
Phoenix - 10.6%
San Francisco - 15.4%
Tampa - 12.3%
https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fa...a,US/AGE775219

The median age of AZ is identical to the US average of 38.2 years and is younger than the entire northeast and midwest.

You are looking at the data for the cities, but the original post is about metro areas. Older people are much more likely to live outside the city. For example, for the Tampa Bay Area the percentage of the population above 65 is 19.4% compared to the 12.3% in the city.

That's why I included the median age for the entire state of Arizona, which is identical to the US average. Florida's median age is on the higher end, but is still below northern New England states.

Metro Phoenix (Maricopa County) is below the US median age.
