$30M South Front mixed-use development approved

Quote:
A 120-year-old brick warehouse and an adjoining vacant lot on South Front are set to become part of a $30 million mixed-use development that would fill the last “missing teeth” of one of Downtown’s most vibrant corridors.

That’s according to a staff report from the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Design Review Board, which voted unanimously Wednesday, Oct. 6, to approve exterior renovations and new construction at 316-324 S. Front.

The Hyatt Corporation is building their first 'Caption' brand hotel in Memphis.

Some comments:
Quote:
Hospitality design firm HBG Design is embracing the new Caption by Hyatt brand with a focus on redefining what hospitality looks like in the modern world, and it couldn’t come at a better time. The first U.S.-located Caption by Hyatt hotel, and second to open worldwide, is a beacon of hope following widespread disruption to the hospitality industry caused by the pandemic. Caption by Hyatt’s upscale, select-service lifestyle brand is targeted to conscientious locals and guests, with a focus on creating social spaces that punctuate connection and interaction with their locale. The Memphis, TN location celebrates the spirit of this iconic American city, steeped in history with many stories to tell.

Yes its still a go, but they are also exploring other sites. The developers just took part in the Daily Memphian Developing Memphis Seminar. You can watch their presentation here:

Thanks for the link. Glad to know it’s still happening. Man! I listened to comments about NBA players saying the city is ugly and they don’t get out when they come here. We need more developers like the Blue Note team to continue to develop our downtown/ pinch those comments stuck with me. Smdh

The Metal Museum will be taking over Rust Hall. Since the new Brooks Museum downtown wont be finished for 4 or so years, they have held off on deciding what will go there for now. I do hope that this proposal gets selected, as it seems like it may be the best option.

Yeah, not the greatest things to hear. You hear about how musicians love the city, and the "grit and grind" inspires them. Apparently athletes prefer the "glitz & glam" instead. Memphis has made strides, but there is still too much blight and vacant lots in the core of the city. Hopefully all these development plans (Pinch/Walk on Union/Clipper) plus all the smaller projects end up coming to fruition.

Looks like they definitely have plans for a hotel hope it’s 1,0000 rooms. Grand Hyatt would be nice.

I hope and believe he will get the nod. He has his stuff together. However, it would be a horrible idea to abandon the plans to complete One Beale with the hotel. That is part of the selling point when prospective tenants view the Landing Residences. That and the new garage by the orpheum will make that area flow smoothly.
But here's hoping he just take over Loews and go ahead and build the JW Marriott that was proposed.

Allegaint Air and Viva Aerobus announced a joint venture today. If approved MEM/CUN is one of the first 11 proposed routes and MEM to Cabo San Lucas is in the within 5 years window.

Folks don't realize that during some stretches Allegiant is offering near daily service to Los Angeles and And Las Vegas. Quite Frankly, with the presence that Allegiant has built at MEM, I could see them forming a base here and using the untouched SW hall of the the New B concourse to house it.

I'm also hoping that Breeze has Memphis on it's radar especially with their A223s now arriving.

Plan underway to expand Big River Park in Crittenden County

Quote:
RITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. (WMC) - Big plans are underway to expand Big River Park, the area between the Harahan Bridge and the Hernando DeSoto Bridge on the Arkansas side.

When developers are done, Mid-Southerners will step into a natural habitat most river cities can only dream of having.

Big River Park is about to triple in size. It’s a $5 million project with half the money already raised.
https://www.kait8.com/2021/12/02/pla...tenden-county/

Looks like there a big plans for the flood plain across from downtown. A group plans to turn into a big park in conjunction with Ducks Unlimited. It would be some type of nature reserve complete with bike trails, newly planted trees and connectors to the Big River Crossing and Levee Trails that run along the Mississippi River. They have most of the money to purchase the farmland just need more fundraising.

It wasn't for 100 N. Main but Sheraton made their pitch also to bring a 300 room JW Marriott and increase their hotel but Loews Hotel won out. Really a shame how this has turned out. Now looking like Sheraton proposal or the other group that started all this before getting stabbed in the back looking more realistic. Loew's really wasted this cities time.

Yes I do remember the Sheraton/JW Marriott expansion. Lowes is getting cold feet. Turning 100 N main into. JW Marriott would be ideal. Here’s hoping 🤞🏿 that’s what happens.
