Never heard of it but looks pretty tall for a city we barely hear of, still it looks a little weird to be a building doesn't it?

Did you take that picture?

This is certainly new for all of us. Chetumal is so far from the nearest mexican forumer registered in SSP that we could hardly get to know, but looks interesting, it could be a hotel. Thanks for sharing, I hope we could find out.

Sorry... I dont know how to say it in english! wl... I do... but Im lazy (is the word correct?)

Accordingly to Antonioqs, it appears to be a Monument to the Mestization or "mixing of the cultures".

translated it in google
"
This is the monument to the Mexican mestization… as in an artificial island in the connected sea to earth x puentesillo… x q in my recorriido x the Mexican Southeastern I stopped to see it… x the q listens to much people of chetumal does not want that monument, because with right reason necessary x argues q spends too much money in something little now, better q deberian to invest it in other things… but we hope to see as it were!"

he's trying to say that they want to put Chetumal on the map. And the building of this structure is part of a revival to attract more visitors, investment, etc.

the project started in 2005 under the administration of the previous governor Joaquin Hendricks Diaz. here is a website I found on the project it's in Spanish though: http://chetumalmonumento.com/

the developers website: http://www.typisa.com.mx/

I also found a picture of a billboard with a rendering of the structure once completed, although its not very distinguishable.

In Quintana Roo state, Chetumal is the capital of that state, but Cancun is the star...
