Can't believe the Flames are tied with the Canucks in the rankings. What happened? Weren't they supposed to be a contender for the playoffs this year ? With Vancouver getting a week off, it will only be that much harder for Calgary to stay in the race.

Meanwhile, the Habs are looking great out there. Their one week off clearly paid off. Staal coming onboard should help the team as well. He should start skating with the team tomorrow.

I must say, I like this North division concept. I always watch hockey here and there when I get the chance, but watching Canadian teams face off against each other this year is clearly more entertaining than watching the Habs play Carolina, or the Coyotes. Imagine if the Nordiques were part of all of this.....

They hired a coach who knew how to coach hockey the way it was played 15 years ago.

Interesting that the Habs and Calgary went with different strategies in terms of coaching staff, and clearly one strategy is working better than the other, thus far.

At what point does the league/team contemplate shutting down the Canucks season? As of now I assume they would pretty much need to bring up half the AHL team who would have to quarantine, and then would be stuck trying to squeeze out 20 games in close to 20 days.

Has that ever happened before in NHL history due to sickness or economics?

I would assume they're currently considering shutting down the Canucks for the remainder of the season. It's either play games with an AHL roster or not play at all. The league likely isn't going to push the playoffs back so a non-playoff team can squeeze in a game/day.

I think the Montreal Wanderers stopped play because of WWI and because their arena burned down mid-season, and the Hamilton Tigers were scuttled because of a strike?

That's 5 matches Habs/Oilers this season. #97 & #29 have no goals. Habs are efficient at shutting out these two.

A nail-biter but two important points.

Leon with a very late hatty.

The coach won the Stanley cup 7 years ago. Surely his coaching style hasn’t been diminished in 7 years... I’ll judge Sutter when given a full season, not halfway through.

We were due... or perhaps more accurately, Calgary was due.

...and Habs looking bad. That's 3 losses in a row. With 4 games a week for the remainder of the season, it's gonna be tough. 4 out of the next 8 games are against Calgary. Crucial 2 weeks coming up.
