Yes, the fact that average income people don't feel comfortable there is part of the brand appeal. I remember reading a study once that showed that snobbier sales people in high end shops lead to higher sales.

Still sounds like "looky-loos" to me, albeit ones with lots of cash.

My first experience in a Second Cup was ages ago in the Village neighbourhood at UBC, and it did have mahogany wood panelling. It was the only one I ever knew about setting up shop in the Lower Mainland.

Such a good example of how little you know about these topics.

Escada closed at Alberni/Thurlow, perhaps because the building owners are doing the reno to add more retail space to the ground level, or perhaps due to a combination of Covid losses as well as lease expiry.

I guess being bankrupt might have something to do with it.

There was a Flight Centre on Robson that closed up years ago and was replaced by a cannabis shop.
The Second Cups I was thinking of were in Toronto. Can't recall many in Vancouver - maybe in the office complex concourses like Bentall Centre.

There's a Second Cup in Park Royal. Been there as long as I can remember.

His comment is ironic in ways he will never know.

And yes, doesn't the market typical reward dying companies with their highest stock price ever?

The Art Knapp that closed in Poco will reopen in Freemont as a smaller more curated shop.

I wonder if there's another round of Starbucks closures at the end of the month.

I went to Sungiven foods on Hastings in Burnaby. It was a complete Trader Joes knock off, are all the stores done the same way? from shelving, to signage, to some of the packagin, the displays and even the tasting corner all look like a Trader Joes Store. Prices and selection were pretty good, much cheaper than I thought.
