Its a prime parcel in a prime location. Can't imagine it'll be sitting vacant for long - and frankly I'm fine with it being used for valet parking for awhile.

Either way, I'm happy to hear the city is proceeding with tearing this one down. Just the first step towards a new development

I have not read any such thing that they do not plan to build and from the last article from AZ Central posted on the 24th:

Now that CSM will be able to move forward with demolition, Wood said the company plans to build a residential high rise in its place, consisting of either condominiums or apartments.

Correct. Nick Wood also said the same thing in the DVC meeting that CSM already has plans in place for high-rise. Whether it's true or not, who knows...

Crazy that they're demolishing it that fast! Hopefully they move this fast when it comes to building something on the empty lot.

IS there any talk of something replacing it? Or is it going to be a vacant lot?

Edit: I did read above. Possible talks of a highrise eh? Hopefully it's true.

No immediate plans. A high-rise seems unlikely until we get past the coronarecession.

Wow that moved much faster than I was anticipating. But good to hear it happened.

In my experience, controversy speeds demolition. Once the property owner knows that preservationists have exhausted all legal options, the tear-down occurs quickly to avoid prolonged debate and adverse media coverage -- sort of of like tearing a band-aid off as quickly as possible in order to be done with the pain.

Correction to my earlier post: Demolition is not complete. The process started on Saturday but was still occuring when I passed by this morning. They started from the back via the alley. Now they're attacking the front from Monroe Street. Because the Steinegger Lodge is sandwiched between two other buildings, I guess the tear-down has to be a slower and more careful process than for a building with nothing else close to it.
