Looks like a Bic lighter after heavy use.

We should adopt the London tradition of nicknaming our skyscrapers, The Spent Lighter?

This is obviously not the final design or anywhere near the final design ... Let's not jinx it ...we desperately need a new tallest in this city !

While I think the current design would stick out like a sore thumb I agree an iconic tower right at the waterfront may redefine our cityscape. When you drive into Hamilton it's easy to not be able to see past the steel mills; an iconic building at this location could change that.

height does not qualify as iconic. this structure -in my opinion, un-inspirational regardless of height status

People keep implying that this building is uninspired and bland ... Have you seen the inventory of really inspired buildings in Hamilton thus far? No? Me neither! Lol. AGAIN.. this is probably not the final design ..more of a blocking presentation.... Massing

They may have also said "Sorry we missed you back then, Hammy... hope to catch up now"

I don't mind it though. Will probably change before anything happens anyway. And I expect the north end NIMBYs will rise up, despite any positivity from Hermie-baby.

That sounds like some whataboutism.

95% of your posts in this forum are 'whataboutism'. ah I wish that term would just go away.

Even if built as is, I honestly don't mind this design I would just hope with either this current or future design that the crown lights up like a beacon in the sky! Hamilton harbours new waterfront lighthouse so to speak. It would and should definitely catch peoples attention coming into Hamilton from all directions, the city's new landmark tower.

Hamilton's success is entirely due to the harbour, it'll be very exciting to have a worthy landmark building for people entering the city, even if the design gets changed. I do like the topper.

I feel as though this is uncalled for. I apologize for questioning the echo chamber of skyscraper fetishism here, but I don't think that is whataboutism at all. Not sure why you hate the term. It's a valid point to make that saying "what about" is a weak argument for any topic.

Do you throw food away? What about starving children in Africa?

Do you really want to be compared to the worst situation in an area.

I just don't like seeing people criticize other's arguments based purely on an accusation of 'whataboutism'. Surely just about any counter argument would be rooted in 'what about.....this other equally valid point'. It's a low blow attack that aims at invalidating another person's perspective.

Kinda reminds me of a smaller version of Aura; the only redeeming quality of that building is its light feature at night. It would be kinda fun if this tower had a restaurant on the upper level rather than ground floor retail.

Fine, you want me to write the entire definition of whataboutism out?

Fine, here you go:

Comparing this to other worse or similarly bad things doesn't mean we should settle for bad or mediocre here. I think that's especially important by the waterfront where this building will likely stand for 100+ years, and everyone will see it from far away as they see Hamilton

Or, whataboutism. Because everyone knows that's what that word means.
