I think the gray piece is part of the climbing crane. The boom (freshly painted black) can be seen waiting on the ground in several shots.

Pretty sure this is structural stuff being assembled ( w side of the site )

Re: construction schedule, I am hearing that while they will continue with the core and shell, the actual BMO buildout will not begin until Q2 of 2021, due to the reactions to the virus.

Even without Covid, that still seems like a relatively normal schedule for such a large building; it's almost September and it's barely above street level.

I agree, but I was told purchase orders were even suspended. So while there is indeed a delay, it won’t affect what we ssp nerds see.

Based on the permit information, I don't think we have seen a TG-2300 in Chicago before. I know there was a TG-1900 at River Point and it looks like Wolfe Point South is getting a TG-1900 too.

Wait, is there any retail on the the Jackson or Van Buren sides of this building? I though I remember seeing renderings of street-level retail because the park is rises up and is not at street level. I may be thinking of another building

In early designs there was a small retail space facing Clinton. This went away as the realities of the garage were worked out.

In the final design there is a BMO bank branch at the corner of Canal and Van Buren, a restaurant on the west side of the core facing the park and a retail space on the north side of the park facing south. The building has no frontage on Jackson with the bus station remaining, on Van Buren, the park will slope down to street level. On Clinton there will be a park access on each corner of the site, loading dock and parking entrance will be at the north end, and pedway entrance at the south end. In the center there will be stepped planters coming down to the sidewalk.

Are they realigning the Canal/Van Buren intersection as a result of this project? Seems like that single southbound lane on Canal could be removed and help simplify that intersection.

The southbound lane on Canal only existed as a garage exit from the old Amtrak garage to the 290 onramp. The southbound lane didn't even extend up to Jackson, it abruptly turned into a striped standing zone north of the garage driveway: https://goo.gl/maps/etNCnMQmpVtFXnjU8

The new building will have garage entrances on Clinton only, so no need for the southbound lane on Canal. The development team already vacated the triangular "slip lane" that clipped the corner of the site.

Excellent shots, Harry. I am still blown away by witnessing the construction of TWO internal climbing cranes in one week. It wasn’t long ago when we went without seeing two in one decade!
