Maybe there are so many anti abortion signs due to all the strippers getting preggo. They want as many fatherless government fed children as possible running around I guess.

I think what happened was, people became outraged at Bush after the whole Iraq thing, and had a term and a half to build up hatred. Then, the right, they figured "well, they hated Bush so we'll hate Obama just the same", even though they really have no tangible reason behind it (other than what they hear on Rush or Fox).

Speaking of the signs, my favorite that I ever saw in MO was one that was basically huge text saying "PORN IS EVIL" or something, right next to an adult bookstore.

I'm really liking all these threads, man.
Oh, cooter is a name for a thing alright...

Anyway, everyone there looks ridiculously overweight. Like, that really stuck out to me.

I think I know where you are talking about, probably western MO on I-70, between Kansas City and Columbia. Lots of porn sheds, pole barn strip clubs, and small church advertisement signs. I-70 in MO is just a freakin' atrocity, but it's more interesting than I-70 between Indianapolis and the Illinois burbs of St. Louis (and 75% of Kansas). Once you are in Colorado, but well before the front range is in site, you are convinced you are in an entirely different region than western Kansas (even though that isn't true). Deer Trail is a little ridiculous in an Ozarks way...I could smell the meth. It's also home to the the worst bathroom I've ever seen in a gas station - I tried to tell myself well...at least I'm not in Kansas anymore, but to my chagrin it didn't work, especially after seeing the blood stained, mad max esque wrecked SUV smashed into the I-70 viaduct over the town. Finally seeing the mountains and the Denver skyline is perhaps a miracle. Oh, I-70.

Outstate Missouri would appear to be one of the more schizo places around judging just from the interstate billboards and roadside...things. I particularly enjoy the giant billboard on I-29 between Kansas City and Omaha that just says NARCISSIST.

well i avoided this thread as long as i could...!

reminds me a lot of the identical tacky southern beachy town crapatecture you see in other local resort places like around the redneck riviera of florida or myrtle beach or south padre island. garish but can be fun too, especially for teens and kids (can't really tell if there is a focus or enough for kids to do in branson?).

anyway these are definately types of places you might visit, but wouldnt want to live in. no offense to anyone that does -- im sure you make a nice nut off the tourism! actually i kind of root for local color/homegrown places to thrive or at least survive vs the canned disneyland or unsustainable vegas types of tourist haunts. however, it seems to me that in this case branson needs to work a little harder hold on to it's local identity. for example, where's the branson in that new uber-generic live/shop lifestyle mall? dont loose your mojo branson!

It's looks like Route 30 east of Lancaster, PA........which is pretty scary too.

The downtown area didn't look that bad.

More on Cooter's place here: http://www.cootersplace.com/aboutben.asp

Ol cooter hasn't exactly had the greatest show biz career after the Dukes of Hazzard.

For a bunch of people that preach tolerance, some of you sure do paint with a broad brush.

Political correctness alert... Why should anyone respect a people who are blatantly ignorant and anti intelligence?

I dont think they deserve any respect either for the ways they act. Most inner city poor people are also intolerant and ignorant. Let the hate come forth...
Are you really going to bitch about tolerance while complaining about those that are intolerant?

A people? How do you define these people? By their GPA? Their voting record? Where they live? Don't be ridiculous. Ignorance is not defined by a boundary.

As much as I don't like rednecks and right wingers either (as many of my posts have shown), I don't think the hatred should be so deep (from either direction). It's really not healthy.

made me think of this thread...

anyway, i don't think rednecks are particularly cool dudes. and i never said i think the confederate flag is awesome. my only point was, all this southern bashing is trite and is boring to me. i don't get the point of pointing out how 'backwards' you all think it is... save for the fucked up idiots who go around spouting off all that anti-semetic, racist bs, i bet that town is full of a lot of nice people. and why alienate a bunch of people because of their likes and dislikes? this country will always have a left, a right, and a center. for every gun store, wal-mart, and pro-american gift shop in rural america, there's a vegan restaurant, whole-foods, and gay-sex shop in urban america. every march 19th, when the streets of chicago fill with all those hipster war protesters, i remind myself of this, roll my eyes, and move on.

Very interesting photos. Parts of the town look kind of nice, yet I think it would be my worst nightmare to be stuck in that town.

Wow Chicago Chicago.........the vitriol you seem to engender!!!! They have even resorted to calling you a REPUBLICAN!!!! Egads!!!!!!! At least they could have started with "NAZI" and worked their way TOWARD "REPUBLICAN"!
It's amazing to me the the hatred spewed forth by some on a forum such as this.............Is Ed Schultz not taking phone calls on his radio program anymore?? Well.....just take comfort (if that's even necessary) in the fact that bitterness and ignorance kill more people each year than automobiles. ))
I'm thinking Keith Olbermann is actually a number of forumers here.)
Don't despair CC.......laughter IS the best medicine and if you continue to visit this forum....you'll NEVER die.
