Smile NEW YORK | Pics of Original WTC's lowrises, plaza, concourse

Per STR's request, I've uploaded some pictures of the original WTC's lowrises, plaza and concourse. These are NOT pictures I took. Rather, I collected them from the web soon after 9/11/01 (since I was afraid people would start removing all pics of the WTC from the web). Note that these pictures run the gamut from recent to rather old (i.e., some are from before the original 7 WTC was built).

Unfortunately, pictures of this area of the WTC are hard to find. I'm afraid there's only one dimly lit picture of the concourse in this collection. And, the lowrises don't appear much, either. But, this is better than nothing, I guess.

If any of you guys have more pictures of these areas, please share them. Actually, if you guys have ANY uncommon pics of the WTC, it'd be great to see them. (By "uncommon", I mean things other than the two towers taken from across the river )

Click icons to see larger images.

This is the one concourse picture:

Not mine. From "SnappyRoo’s Twin Towers Tribute". You have to sometimes fish around in the parent directory for the images as some of the webpage links to the pics are broken.

Taken the weekend before they were destroyed...

that's a ridiculous picture. i used to skate those stairs with my friends 2000-2001 and we would hide in that black sculpture when security would come after us.

I remember my first visit to the WTC site in 1999-2000 or so. However, I don't even think I noticed the Twin Towers then. I just remember a bunch of kids skating those exact rails, and one almost fucking himself up by falling off one of those rails.

Life takes us on interesting turns sometimes. How amazing would it be if I actually saw you there?

Great pics. I have some old WTC shots. I'll have to find them, they're old 35mm pics...

^ That's the best picture I've ever seen of the TKTS booth-area. And the "OnStage" ads are on the 2 WTC windows! I didn't remember that. I wish there were closer-up pictures. It's really striking that the graphic on my brochure matches the one in the window... something I can physically hold in my hands to confirm reality.

Interesting article as well.

*EDIT* Replaced pic links with more reliable Flickr links.

I wish to God that I visited the obs deck long ago!!

Now I truly regret it!! It would have been a total experience - something to behold!!

The WTC were not only tall and impressive, they also demonstrated the 1960's style in its every single details. That's something we will not see again

They were, and always will be, a feat of engineering.

Does anyone have closer-up pictures of the 2 WTC doors?

There's that one.

*EDIT* And I just found a better one (remembered I had saved):

I remember the inner doors had not handles, but the thin shiny bars seen on the revolving doors in the above pic, right?

^ Sort-of visualization.

They should, and don't see why they wouldn't!

Don't be hard on yourself. Even though it won't be outdoor, in a few years it will be there once again you will get that chance.

I very much look foward to that myself!
