Meh, I'd rather Chicago (and possible Tribune Tower East) get a unique, 'first in the US' hotel, like the Langham or Virgin Hotel (but 5 star), rather than a flag that already has a presence here. Shangri-la seems so...2008.

Spires tend to look better on buildings that taper to form a pinnacle...like the Chrysler building, met life..etc... having random spires on flat top buildings is ehh...it grows on you after awhile but i mean from an architectural standpoint doesn't seem to add much to the building except vanity height.

He deducts a few points for the blow-through, but ignores the sloppy treatment of the mechanical floors.
While I agree with the issue of the mechanical floor aesthetics, I've got to say I think his overall write-up is on the money here. I've been critical of him at times, but he's had at least two very recent reviews (this and 110 N Wacker) with which I find it difficult to quibble too much. I think they're pretty good takes.
